in #steemchurch5 years ago

A warm greeting Dear friends and brothers
Welcome to my blog
God bless you!

Jesus told them a parable about the need to pray always, and not to faint.
Luke 18:1

Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Matthew 6:8

Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17

God knows what we need. So we might ask ourselves what good is it to pray.

First, let us remember that prayer is not limited to making petitions: there are prayers to thank, to praise, to express before God our sorrows... There are also prayers in which we simply express our thoughts.

But why present our petitions to God? Because it is the means that he has given us to receive from him. God likes to communicate, he likes to give. He is not like the pagan gods who "have a mouth, but speak not; have eyes, but see not; have ears, but hear not; have noses...". (Psalm 115:5-6). As soon as he created man, God spoke to him. When Adam and Eve sinned, he spoke to them and listened to their answers. He wants his children to speak to him. This is prayer. Several verses encourage us to do so:

  • Ask, and it shall be given unto you... For everyone who asks receives" (Matthew 7:7-8).

  • Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6).

  • Praying at all times with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching over it with all perseverance" (Ephesians 6:18).

  • Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation" (Matthew 26:41).

  • You do not have what you desire, because you do not ask" (James 4:2).

In praying we follow the example of Jesus Christ, his apostles, and his servants.

The Lord Jesus was truly the Man of prayer. His first and last words on the cross were addressed to his Father. He prayed all night before choosing his disciples. Later, in answer to his prayer, the Father sent the Holy Spirit. He prayed before eating, he prayed before the suffering of men... He prayed especially for others, and now lives and intercedes for those who seek God (Hebrews 7:25).

And when he arose early in the morning, while it was yet very dark, he (Jesus) went out and went to a desert place, and there he prayed.
Mark 1:35

--

He went to the mountain to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
Luke 6:12

Because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we can approach God in prayer to ask for forgiveness for our sins. In addition, praying for one another as a Church will help us to carry the spiritual burdens and struggles we have together.
