The Russian writer Dostoevsky (1821-1881), condemned to be shot for his revolutionary activities, was finally deported to a labour camp in Siberia. Returning from prison, he took with him a New Testament, and wrote: "Now everything is clear to me: no one is more beautiful, deeper, more understanding and more perfect than Christ. There is no one better. If anyone wanted to prove to me that Jesus Christ is out of the truth, I would rather stay with Him than with the truth. But Jesus Christ Himself said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6).

On his deathbed, Dostoyevsky asked for the New Testament that he had read so much in Siberia. He showed the little worn book to his children and said: "Never separate yourselves from this book and, above all, never doubt the love and forgiveness of Jesus.

This testimony to the value of the Book of God and the love of Jesus for a man who went through many trials joins the testimony of millions of believers, both those who have had an easy existence and those who have sacrificed their lives for not denying their faith.

The New Testament is the second part of the Bible. It begins with the four gospels that describe the life of Jesus Christ, who came to free us from sin and to open the way for peace with God. Then follows the Acts of the Apostles, 21 epistles, and Revelation.

He who believes in His Word receives eternal life.
