12 letters to my Girlfriends ~Letter 3 (Part 1)

It is with a heavy and bleeding heart I relay this sad story to you because you are dear to my heart. It was so touchy that after my girlfriend finished telling me her story; we ended up shedding tears painfully.

The story went thus; Jane was a promising baby during her toddler stage. Painfully, she lost her father at that early age of life. The burden of bringing her and her siblings up was upon her struggling mother. In the city where they lived, there were a lot of atrocities such as immorality, drunkenness, drug peddling, smoking of all kinds, etc.

In fact, the environment was negatively affecting this innocent little promising beautiful damsel, Jane. At the age of eight, she was so committed to the things of God. She never missed church service. Her Catholic background made her religious and engrossed in Catholic doctrine.

In the bid to provide for her family, her mother started an indecent and ungodly business of selling of intoxicating drinks (hot drinks and cigarette). Jane, as little as she was, hated such trade but there was nothing she could do as her entreaties to persuade her mother to stop this dirty business proved abortive.

At that time when Jane’s uncle, Mr Dickson started visiting them at home. He did it in order to show care to his late brother’s family. This ‘unsolicited’ gesture made Jane to be free with and close to him. Once a while, Jane will visit her uncle, at another time, her mother would send her on errand to the uncle’s house for one thing or the other.
