How Much Do You Know About Demons?

모든 사람들은 귀신에 대해 두렵고 무서운 기억을 가지고 있습니다.
Everyone has a scary experience or a memory regarding demons.

그러한 현상은 그동안 영화나 TV드라마에서 보아온 기억의 덕택이거나, 어렸을 때부터 부모나 손위형제가 장난을 치려고 귀신을 자주 언급한 덕분일 겁니다.
That is probably created by movies and TV shows, or scary stories told by your parents and other family members.

그러나 영화나 드라마는 청중을 불러들이고 시청률을 올려야 하기에, 엄청나게 무서운 존재로 등장시켜 물리적인 공격력을 배가하여 공포를 최고로 높였죠.
But usually, media exaggerated the demons' characters as scary and fearsome as possible, giving them physical powers as well as spiritual, in order to gain viewers and increase ratings.

그 덕분에 반대급부로, 거짓투성이의 귀신을 여러분의 머릿속에 각인시켰습니다.
And thanks to that, people now have all the wrong info about these demons imprinted in their heads.

이는 오랜 학교교육의 영향으로, 이성적이고 합리적이며 과학적으로 증명되지 않은 것들을 무시하고 부정하라는 세뇌교육에 힘입은 바가 크죠.
That is probably due to the school education system as well, teaching people to be reasonable and rational, denying and ignoring things that are not scientifically proven.

그러나 여러분은 크리스천이기에 이 글을 읽고 있을 것입니다.
But you are probably reading or listening to my columns and videos because you are Christian.

크리스천은 성경이 하나님의 말씀이라는 것을 믿어야 합니다.
Christians should believe that the Bible is word of God.

성경은 사탄이나 귀신이 주인공으로 등장하는 책이죠.
The Bible is a book that has Satan or demons as one of main characters.

또한 귀신은 영적이 존재로서 눈에 보이거나 과학적으로 증명되지 않기에, 이를 억지로라도 믿어야 하는 여러분의 곤란한 입장이 이해가 갑니다.
Also, since demons cannot be scientifically proven or explained, I know it is hard to believe in them when you are familiar with reasoning and approaching matters in scientific ways.

그래서 교회에는 귀신에 대한 두 가지 부류의 사람들이 등장합니다.
So two types of people exist in church.

하나는 귀신을 인정하지 않으려는 사람들입니다. 이 부류는 귀신의 존재가 성경에 기록되어 있기에 부정하는 것은 아니지만 인정하고 싶어 하지 않습니다.
One is the people who do not accept demons. They don't deny demons' existence, but they do not want to accept the fact they exist.

이 사람들은 공룡처럼, 한때 이 땅에 살았지만 지금은 존재하지 않는 생물처럼 여기는 듯합니다.
It almost seems like they believe the demons as entities that existed in the past but not anymore, just like dinosaurs.

그들이 목사라면 설교의 주제로 거의 등장하지 않고, 누군가가 귀신이야기를 하면 귀담아 듣지 않으려 애쓰죠.
And if a pastor is this type, demons will not appear in his sermons; and he or she will not listen to other people's claims if demons are mentioned.

그들의 모습에서 믿지 못하겠다는 표정이 역력히 읽힙니다. 그러나 입으로는 부정하지 않죠. 성경에 수도 없이 등장하기 때문이예요.
I can imagine their look of disbelief. However, they don't deny demons' existence out loud, since the Bible mentions them.

또 한 부류는 귀신을 스스로 만들고 업데이트합니다.
The other type is the people who create demons themselves and update their characteristics one by one.

제가 언급하는 베스트셀러 작가목사가 그렇습니다.
I know a best selling author/ pastor who does that.

이 목사는 베스트셀러가 된 자신의 책을 통해, 찡그리는 귀신 등 새로운 유형의 귀신들을 엄청나게 등장시켜 독자들에게 무지막지한 두려움을 심어줍니다.
Through his books, he has his readers fearful of these demons; demons that make you frown, frog demons, demons you have not heard anywhere before.

귀신들이 어떻게 들어오고, 어떤 사람에게 잘 붙어있는 등, 자신의 상상으로 만든 귀신이야기를 세세하게 말해서 막연한 귀신공포증을 심어주고 있습니다.
He puts fear into anyone that reads his work, explaining how demons enter people and what type of people draw demons like that; most of them are written from his imagination.

그래서 그의 독자들과 그가 담임하는 교회의 교인들은 귀신공포증 환자가 됩니다.
So his readers and people who attends his church services become frightened by demons.

그러나 그 목사가 귀신을 쫒아내는 일은 없습니다. 귀신을 그렇게 잘 알고 분별하는 능력이 있는데, 왜 쫒아내지는 못할까요?
But he never chases demons away. Why is that? Why won't he drive those demons out if he has the ability to do so?

그것은 그가 말하는 것이 허구라는 것을 증명하는 셈이죠.
That proves that his claims are mere bedtime stories, scary bedtime stories at that.

영안이 열리고 분별력이 있다면, 성령이 내주하는 성령의 사람으로서 귀신을 쫒아내는 영적 능력이 있는 사람입니다.
If he has his spiritual eyes open and can distinguish demons from the Spirit, that means he must have the power of the Holy Spirit within him.

성경을 보세요. 예수님이나 사도들이 귀신들이 있다고 겁만 주었습니까? 아니면 이들을 즉각 쫒아주었습니까?
Read the Bible. Did Jesus and disciples just scare people with stories of demons, or did they drive them out right away?

그러므로 이 같은 부류의 사람들은 자신만이 귀신을 잘 아는 것을 드러내려고 무진 애를 씁니다.
This type usually like to make people think that they are the only one with vast knowledge about these demons.

그러나 귀신에 대해 실상을 잘 모르는 사람들은, 그러한 사람을 존경의 대상으로 올려다보고 탁월한 영적 능력자로 우러러 보게 되지요.
And listeners or readers who do not know demons well enough looks at them with awe, thinking they are great spiritual leaders.

그러나 귀신을 잘 아는 것처럼 얘기하는 사람들 중에 비성경적인 내용을 말하는 사람도 적지 않고, 쫓아낸다고 하는 사람들도 비성경적인 방식으로 쫒는 사람도 많습니다.
However, there are plenty of people who exorcise demons in non-biblical ways, as well as speaking non-biblically about these demons amongst these people.

그러나 대부분의 사람들은 이들의 오류나 속임을 분별하지 못하기 때문에, 그들을 떠받들고 대단한 은사를 받은 사람으로 추종합니다.
Unfortunately, people don't have the ability to tell apart what is true and what isn't, so they fall into those 'leaders' words and follow them, thinking they are people of God.

그러니까 우리네 주변의 종교지도자들은, 귀신에 무지하여 귀신을 인정하려 하지 않으려는 사람과, 귀신을 잘 안다고 떠벌리는 사람들이 있는 셈이예요.

그렇다면 여러분은 어느 부류의 지도자를 추종하며 신앙생활을 하고 있습니까?
So what type of spiritual leader are you following at church?

이 두 부류의 지도자의 가르침을 배우고 있다면, 여러분은 귀신에 대해 속수무책으로 당할 수밖에 없습니다.
If you are taught and led by one of the two types I have mentioned, you are in for a bumpy ride of demons' meddling.

귀신에 대해 무지한 사람에게는 배울게 전혀 없을 것이고, 귀신에 대해 잘못 배운다면 그들의 먹잇감으로 살아갈 수밖에 없을 겁니다.
You have nothing to learn from people who don't know about demons, and if you do learn all the wrong things, you cannot help but become a prey for demons.

어쨌든 이 두 부류의 지도자들에게 배운다면 귀신들의 포로가 되어 불행하게 살다가, 영혼과 생명을 사냥당하고 지옥의 불길에 던져지게 될 것이예요.
Anyway, if you learn about demons from these types of people, you'd be likely to live miserably under demons' control; you will have your soul and life preyed upon and be thrown out to Hell's fire.

우리의 씨름은 혈과 육을 상대하는 것이 아니요 통치자들과 권세들과 이 어둠의 세상 주관자들과 하늘에 있는 악의 영들을 상대함이라(엡6:12)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6: 12)

아니, 그런 얘기가 어디에 있냐고요? 성경에 있죠.
Where does this story come from? Of course, from the Bible.

위의 에베소서 말씀 말고라도, 예수님은 주기도문에서, 시험에 들지 말게 하옵시며 악에서 구해달라는 기도를 주문하셨습니다.
Other than the passage from Ephesians, Jesus also tells us to pray so that we don't fall into temptation and to be rescued from evil in The Lord's Prayer.

시험(불행이나 고난)에 빠지게 하는 이는 누구입니까?
Who put you to test? (Test = misfortunes/ hardships)

이의 명칭은 ‘시험하는 자’이며, 사탄의 또 다른 이름입니다. 이 ‘시험하는 자’인 사탄이, 예수님이 공생애를 시작하기 전에 찾아와서 세 가지 시험을 했던 것을 기억할 겁니다.
He is called 'the tester,' which is another name for Satan. He is the one who tests (or tempts) Jesus three times when he was out in the desert.

악에서 구해달라는 주기도문의 끝자락을 살펴봅시다. 악은 헬라어로 ‘호 포네론’입니다.
Let's take a look at the last sentence of The Lord's Prayer. In Greek, the word evil is "ho poneron"

'호'는 정관사 the와 같은 역할로, ‘호 포네론’은 ‘악’도 되지만 ‘악한 자’라는 뜻도 됩니다.
The word "ho" is a definite article like "the"; "ho poneron" also means 'the evil one' as well as 'evil' itself.

악한 자는 사탄은 말하며, 악한 자가 쳐놓은 덫이 바로 악(죄)에 빠지게 하는 것이죠.
The evil one refers to Satan, and the traps he and his minions set out art the ones that tempts us to sin.

그렇다면 성경에서 죄를 짓게 하여 영혼과 생명을 사냥하는 무리가 바로 사탄과 귀신이라고 말하고 있는데, 여러분은 귀신의 존재에 대해 감감 무소식이라는 것은 귀신의 공격에 속수무책으로 당하고 있다는 것이고, 귀신에 대해 잘못 알고 있다면 이미 귀신의 먹잇감이 되어 살아가고 있다는 뜻이기도 합니다.
So the Bible tells us that demons deceive us to sin and hunt our lives and souls; but if you are not aware of any of these attacks, that means you are being deceived 24/7; if you are not aware of demons at all, that means you already live your life as demons' servant.

그러나 여러분은 제 견해를 인정하기 싫을 겁니다.
I am positive that you don't want to hear this.

그렇다면 여러분의 삶을 찬찬히 살펴보세요. 평안하고 기쁘고 즐겁게 살아가고 있습니까?
Then take a look at your life. Do you live happily, with peace and joy?

아니면 정반대로서, 고단하고 팍팍한 삶을 마지못해서 살아가고 있습니까?
Or... are you living a life of misery and misfortune?

평안하고 형통하게 살지 못한 이유는, 귀신이 쳐 놓은 덫에 걸려 걱정과 염려, 두려움과 불안, 낙심과 절망에 빠져 고통스럽게 살고 있는 증거입니다.
You are not living a peaceful, successful life because you have fallen into the traps that demons set; once you fall in, you lead a life of concerns, fear, despair, and disappointment.

그렇다면 귀신의 공격을 피하고 그들의 포로가 되지 않으려면 어떻게 해야 할까요?
Then what do you need to do, if you don't want to become a servant of demons?

귀신의 공격을 알아채는 분별력이 있어야 하며, 이들의 공격을 물리치는 영적 능력이 있어야 할 것입니다.
You must be able to distinguish demons' attacks and the ability to resist and fight against them.

이는 성령이 내주하는 기도의 습관을 들여 성령이 주시는 지혜인 분별력을 얻어야 할 것이며, 예수 그리스도의 보혈의 능력을 가슴에 새겨서, 귀신을 쫒아내고 그들의 공격을 무력화시키는 기도의 능력을 소유하여야 할 겁니다.
In order to acquire the abilities, you have to make a habit of calling out to God; you will have to receive wisdom from the Holy Spirit, to distinguish demons and their attacks; you must gain the ability of Jesus Christ's blood in your heart; you must receive the ability to drive demons out and nullify their attacks.

그러나 그냥 이대로 살겠다면 지옥의 자리를 예약한 것이나 진배없을 것이죠.
If you choose to live your life as is, however, you basically are making a reservation for yourself in Hell.

물론 이 땅에서 평안하고 형통한 삶도 여러분의 몫이 아니예요.
And of course, that means you'd have to give up on the ideal life full of joy and peace.

그 이유는 기도하기 귀찮아서, 자신과 자신의 가족이 귀신의 먹잇감이 되어도 괜찮다고 여긴 무지와 어리석음의 대가를 지불하기 때문입니다.
It is because whatever the reason is, (whether you just don't want to pray or don't see the need) you will pay for your ignorance and laziness of not praying.
