MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE

Dear Beloved

Marriage is defined as a permanent union of two matured adults, male and female. The essential properties of marriage are

1. Unity
2. Indissolublity.

This cannotes Oneness and Exclusivity. The two become one in such a natural way that nothing whatsoever can divide them.

God is One and all things are united in Him for He originates all things. In a similar way, all human beings originate from one physical stock, the First Adam. We are all drawn out, and the newly born are still being drawn out, from him. In contrast, the Angels were created in a flesh, all at once ,with their different forms and beauties (No Evolution).

In the spiritual realm, all of us also originaited from one spiritual stock- The 2ND ADAM. All who have spiritual life got it from the 2nd Adam. [ No Indifferentism].

The 1st Adam was made from unbaked Clay. He broke and brought woe to all mankind. The 2nd Adam was made from the same unbaked Clay. He baked it through suffering and leads those who follow Him to salvation. Note that the one who sanctifies, and the ones who are sanctified, are of one stock- all are descended from Adam.

Eve was drawn out of Adam. It is as if one could say that Adam is the mother of Eve! As Adam and Eve are one because Eve came from Adam, they are even more united and made one in a very special way by their marital relationship. The purpose of God in marriage is that a man and his wife become so competely one that thier blood becomes the same, their thinking, their likesand dislikes, etc become the same. They are no longer two, but one.

God's plan to attain this oneness is through the marital union. When a virgin young man marries a virgin girl, a mysterious thing happens the moment they consummate their marriage. The man's blood will appear in the body of the girl, and vice versa. Their blood has intermingled. The girl carries with her the life blood of her husband, and the man carries in his own body the life blood of his wife. They have attained an admixture of life. Each has poured /emptied his whole being into the other. As they begin to have the same blood, they also begin to have the same ideas, desires, thinking, mindset.

A man's wife is therefore, not a seperate person but part of the man. To stress this fact, both bear the same name. The woman immediately drops her maiden surname and takes that of the husband. In some countries like Russia, the wife drops, not just her surname but her first name as well. For Example, the wife of Mr. Romanov is not called Mrs. Romanov but Mrs. Romanova : Mrs. Anthony becomes Mrs. Anthonia. Etc. She answers the name of her husband with a feminine ending. This is why there is nothing like divorce in the real sense, for you can not divorce yourself.

The Union of Man and wife is therefore the deepest and most fulfilling human relationship. Marriage offers them opportunity to know and love each other at a depth that nothing else on earth can offer. " This is why a man leaves his father and mother joins himself to his wife, and they become one body. " Gen. 2:24 . Other relationships, even those with parents, are put in a second place.

For a couple to Iive their married life according to the mind of God, they must practice chasity in marriage. In other words, they must remain faithful to each other and must not seek sexual pleasure from any other source.

• It is through the practice of chasity that the three goals of marriage could be achieved : Marriage between one man and one woman; To last their entire lives; To bear and train children.

(a). MONOGAMY : God is love and God is One. So love must also be one. The love that seeks several sexual partners is not true love. It is selfish love- erotic love. Once it is satisfied with one person, it looks for another. It turns humans into mere instruments of pleasure, make people disposable. "In the beginning God made them male and female. " No polygamy (one man, many wives) ,no polyandary (one woman, many husbands) no successive polygamy (marrying and divorce), as many do today.

(b). PERMANENCE : Marriage is for thier entire lives, " till death do us part". The love always aspires to permanence. To love someone totally, but only for a time, is a contradiction in terms. This is why couples living together without marriage do not really love each other. They are afraid to total love, of permanent love. They feel free to abandon thier partners at any serious provocation. Their love is not complete, not for better and for worse. Their love is for better for stay; for worse for go. Any man who keeps a woman in his house but decides not to wed her until she bears a male child for him, shows clearly he has no love for the woman. The woman is only his instrument for having children. Such people usually have other sexual partners outside thier home.

(c). TO PRODUCE NEW LIFE: Every marriage must have for its ultimate purpose, the generation of holy children who will polulate the church and also heaven. The children must be given Christian education for them to be morally sound. For a child to be properly brought up, he should live with his parents for 21years. It takes about 21 years to procreate a child.
Another end of marriage is community of life . The command to be fruitful and multiply giving by God in Gen 1:28 is given to human race as a whole. It does not mean that each couple is bound to have children. So when a couple realize that they are barren, they can pray and do other legitimate thi GS to be fertile, but they must not commit sin as a result.
