HOMILETICS 10 - THE PRINCIPLES OF RECEIVING A MESSAGE FROM GOD.
To successful preachers, this is the difficult part of the job. A good preacher wants to be sure of what to preach to a particular group. To be sure of what to preach you must learn to receive from God.
Receiving the message comes from different dimensions and it requires sensitivity on the part of the preacher to the Holy Spirit.
Different ways messages come to the preacher may include the following:
A. While studying the bible a particular verse or verses or part of the verse may stand out and capture your attention, a revelation knowledge will manifest in that part of the scripture that may be your message.
B. At other times, a verse or thought from the bible may ring bell in your mind or ear and impress itself on your heart and you will begin to see a different perception in that scripture, that message can be developed.
C. While another preacher is preaching or someone reading, a particular thought will be impressed in your heart write it down for it can be developed.
D. The known spiritual need of a particular group may direct you to select a message that will solve such problem.
E. The use of church calendar may help you to know the message that is required during festivals or other major programs of the church. For instance Easter, Pentecost, Christmas, wedding and burial ceremony, etc.
F. Observing the people and things happening within the church and the general society also gives insight to some messages that need to be developed.
G. While praying and seeking what to preach in obedience to the Holy Spirit, God may give you a word in your hearing or he may lay it in your heart, which may be massage.
When the central thought is ascertained, it can be developed to bless the church
H. In the prophetic dimension, one who operates in this realm may receive divine instruction on what to say while some others may see a personality in a dream or vision teaching you or directing you on what to do. Remember that all these divine responses can only come when you pray or rely on God to lead you.
Note: To receive from God requires consecration, heart commitment and opening of your heart to God to lead you and you must rely on the word of God.
