CURE FOR SIN AND SICKNESS

in #steemchurch5 years ago

Sickness is something no one one bargains for, yet everyone is subject to it at one time or the other. While some people don't usually get sick, some suffer from persistent illness and some battle with terminal diseases.

Sickness is part and parcel of life in this broken and fallen world. It is part of the fallout from man's collective rebellion against God, and in that sense it's indiscriminate -John 9:1-3.

But, sometimes sickness results from personal sin. In the Bible, to support this claim, in John 5:14 for instance, Jesus warned the healed invalid: "Behold, thou art made whole, sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee."(King James Version)

The Apostle Paul also told the Corinthian church in 1st Corinthians 11: 30 that because of their unworthy participation in the Lord's supper, many of them were afflicted with bodily weakness, sickness, disease and even death.
This means they didn't partake of the sacred ordinance in a state of sanctity and soberness.

However, most sicknesses don't arise from personal sin. Some sicknesses are afflicted by satan and his team and a demon can be the source of an infirmity without the sick person or even the doctors knowing it. No wonder doctors can't identify some ailment nor cure a seemingly curable disease.

But Jesus knows this, that's why He rebukes illnesses as if he were speaking to a human being(see Luke 4: 39). Also when he healed the woman who was bed ridden by the spirit of infirmity for 18 years,

in Luke 13: 11-16, His response to the ruler of the Synagogue, who are accused him of performing a miracle on the sabbath day was, "Ought not this woman being a daughter of Abraham, whom satan has bound, lo, these 18 years be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?."
The source of this woman's sickness is identified as satan himself.

Many Bible texts denote the connection between illnesses and the satanic world. For instance, the mute possessed person from whom the Lord cast out the evil spirit in Matthew 9:333 spoke after his deliverance.

This indicates that the devil himself was responsible for his sickness. Moreover Jesus calls the devil a thief who comes only to steal, kill and destroy- John 10:10.
Sickness does the same too. It steals peoples health away and seeks to destroy them prematurely.
