Dear Christian parents:

We must recognize that we think that teaching a child to love the invisible, omnipotent and loving God is quite difficult. Especially with technology that allows film and television producers to produce anything incorporated into their science fiction programs. Children are very curious and their imagination is able to create fantastic images that seem faithful to them.

Regarding this, it is not so because sometimes we believe that it is difficult to teach our children the love of God, but in reality it is not so much. Actually, teaching this is as difficult as teaching any kind of values, and its success is simply to experience and live what we teach them. If you do not want your child to lie, do not lie too; If you want me to respect you, respect him too; if you want me to be tolerant, be tolerant of others, and if you want me to love God, love him first, and show him through your actions. That is, first one strengthens his spirit, and then he can guide his children.

"You have to love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your life force. And these words that I am sending you today must turn out to be over your heart; and you have to inculcate them in your son "(Deuteronomy 6: 4-7).

How do we teach the children to love God?

Teaching them to trust Him, to believe in His goodness even in difficult times, to continue in His way when there are trials and struggles and secure in His mercies that are new every morning and His faithfulness that is great, greater than any test. Love is the practical faith that we decided to show by our obedience and fidelity as Job who said: "Though He kills me, in Him I will wait ..." (Job 13:15). Remember that love of God is a decision, not an emotion, especially when it costs us to follow His way. Thus we are teaching Love to God with all our heart, all our soul and all our mind, just as He wants.

In order for your children to love God, they have to see that you love them too, because they will most likely follow your example.

What can you do to make your children love God?

2 Timothy 3:15 From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which can make you wise for salvation through the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

The Word of God has a lot of power (Hebrews 4:12). So help your children understand the basic teachings of the Bible. To reach the hearts of your children, use the same techniques that Jesus used with his disciples: ask them questions, listen to their answers and explain what they do not understand.

You can also review with them some biblical stories that show the affection with which God treated people. That way they will know the Creator better and will love him more.

Practical ways to instill in children the love of God

-Show reverence and respect before a Supreme Being, Who has created us and Whom we must honor daily not only in words, but through our conduct.

-Show love and respect towards your spouse. The love that their parents profess and the harmony in the home, they are the best sample of the love to God. If the child sees that his parents treat each other with respect, enjoy being together and know how to resolve their differences without losing control, it will be very easy for him to understand what the love of God consists of.

-Show respect and love to others. He who loves his neighbor can say that he loves God. As we read in the First Epistle of John 4:20 If anyone says: I love God, but he hates his brother, he is a liar. Because he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? Then how do we show love to our neighbor? It is simple. Because of the way we treat others, when we do not judge or criticize, or when we help unconditionally those who need it. This is how we teach them the love of God and respect for others.

-Pray every day with them before going to bed, so that in the future they can do it alone. Remember that prayer is not the repetition of meaningless sentences, but is a dynamic conversation with God, in which we thank for the benefits received and ask for certain things that we need or want. For example say: "Dad God, thanks for the life of my daddy and my mommy; thank you because I have a house, when there are people who do not have one; thanks because nothing hurts me; thanks for the food ", etc. It is about making simple sentences, short and with simple words that they can understand and based on their reality and experiences.

• Go to church every Sunday, because it is a mandate from God and as children we owe obedience. This also teaches them that we submit to the authority of God and that we respect His will.

-Make a small prayer always before eating, thanking God for the food and blessing them in the name of Jesus.

-Read the Scriptures with them -I hope daily- from small. As the Bible is a heavy and difficult book to understand, we can look for Bibles for children, which are easily found in the market, with colorful illustrations and in which they tell the stories in a short and simple way, to make their reading , something fun and understandable.

Thus, the best way to teach anything to our children is by getting involved in the process, that is, experiencing and transmitting it. The love of God should not be an exception in our daily life. On the contrary, it is at this point in the education of our children, in which we must commit ourselves more than in any other. Our firm conviction in the things of God must be our best teacher.
