Aspects of effective prayer

Reading: Matthew 6: 5-8

Please change your mind to the form of a child so that you can understand the Word that God has for you today.

Learning to communicate with God is fundamental to our Christian life. We have learned to know that we believe in a Living God, who knows how to listen and answer us; however, it is very difficult for many to learn to communicate effectively with Him.

I do not want to present you with a teaching of rare theories of self-knowledge or deep meditation; I simply want, in the light of the Word, to teach you three elements that must be taken into account when presenting ourselves before God. This has helped me a lot in my daily communication with God and I pray that you will also help:

Source

1.- FAITH (Hebrews 11: 6)

If you do not pray with faith, do not think that you will receive anything from God. The one who approaches God must believe in his existence, of the opposite. Why pray? And, in addition, you must believe that God is faithful to answer your prayer.

Many people pray because it is a moral responsibility with themselves, because they feel it is a Christian duty but they do not enjoy prayer and have not learned to know God's love. Some others pray with a deep sense of guilt that makes them feel unworthy of being in the presence of God. Others simply talk to themselves and not to God, ignoring their Power and Glory.

If you want to have an intimate communion with God you must believe that He is REAL and that He is faithful to answer your prayer. If not, you will be wasting your time.

2.- HUMILITY

Notice that in the first part of Matthew's scripture, Jesus talks about people who like to pray aloud for others to hear and say "So nice that he prays," "That person is very holy," "That person is anointed by God "or any kind of flattery, but they do not do it to honor God (That is also seen today).

It is more pleasing to God that a person enters his room and pray to him in secret than a person who likes to pray aloud only for others to praise him.

God demands to be the central axis of our prayer, demands that we be humble and that we pray to Him and not to ourselves. To humble ourselves before God is to recognize his sovereignty and superiority and know that we present ourselves before Him who is the creator of the Universe. God wants us to put aside our ego and our empty prayers and put it in the first place of our lives; that we present ourselves before Him with humility and trust, knowing that He is God and that we are His children.

God does not reject a humble heart that knows how to recognize his need for Him.

3.- SINCERITY

If there is something we see in the psalms of David it is sincerity. David presented himself to God as he felt and told him his things as he tells them to a friend. Feelings of sadness, anguish, gratitude, love are constant in his writings and we even find recriminations that end in praise.

The teaching is very clear: God likes sincerity.

God does not care about the time we are praying, what is the use of staying 5 hours saying the same thing and the same without getting anywhere? What is the use of praying with words to feel satisfied with our prayer or for others to think? that we pray very well?

God does not look at appearances like us, He looks at the heart.

If you want your prayer to be pleasing before God, you must know that He already knows what you are going to say before you say it, so you should not pretend anything to Him; Just be yourself and enter his presence as you are and as you feel, HE WILL NOT DISCARD YOU IF YOU DO IT.

We must understand that God is someone and not something, not a thing but a being that knows how to listen to us and answer us if we have faith, humility and sincerity. Strengthen your relationship with God based on these principles and you will see how your communion with him is renewed and strengthened.

HE IS REAL AND HE IS THE LIVING AND UNIQUE GOD; IF YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS, YOUR SON, YOU ALSO BECOME YOUR CHILD AND YOU CAN PRESENT YOURSELF WITH CONFIDENCE BEFORE HIM; FOR THAT GOD SENT IT TO THE WORLD, SO THAT YOU CAN APPROACH HIM WITHOUT ANY IMPEDIMENT. NEVER FORGET; WHEN ANY THOUGHT COMES TO MAKE YOU FEEL INDIGN, REMEMBER THAT JESUS DIED SO THAT YOU COULD BE NEAR GOD.

GOD BLESS YOU

We can add that prayer can only be effective if it is done according to the perfect will of God: "And this is the confidence we have in him, that if we ask for a house according to his will, he hears us" 1Jn 5:14. One of the petitions in Jesus' model prayer, the Lord's Prayer, confirms it: "Thy will be done, as it is in heaven, so also on earth" Mt 6:10. In many cases the will of God is known because He has revealed it in the scriptures. Thanks @taty17.
