Gold, incense and myrrh

in #steemchurch6 years ago

The biblical story tells us that the Magi when they went to visit Jesus brought him gifts of gold, incense and myrrh. More than the gift itself, I am struck by the fact that three people were able to follow that star and get to know El Salvador.

I have the idea that God tells us something with the number three. If we think and investigate in depth, the number three appears four hundred sixty seven times mentioned in the Bible both explicitly and implicitly. Let's think about the divinity of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, think about the resurrection of Jesus that was on the third day, think of the angels exclaiming "Holy, Holy, Holy" and so we can continue to quote events in which the number three appears mentioned.

According to various theological studies, the number three is related to the resurrection and the divinity, which would explain that the Three Kings have been three and have brought three gifts to Jesus, recognizing his divinity and confirming it through this act. There are even more applied scholars who point out that each element means something; for its part, myrrh would be a symbol of man, incense would be the symbol of God, and gold would be the symbol of the King, the three reflection of the nature of who rested in the manger that night.

Looking at a manger a few nights ago, I thought about what gift I would have liked to bring to Jesus that night ... I thought about three things I had chosen and it was hard for me to decide, I thought about material objects, I thought about symbolic elements ... without being able to make up my mind. Let's think that if Jesus is THE KING, what could be missing? It is difficult to think of something, it is like giving something to a child who has everything he wants, or many relatives who give him gifts. We can not decide and we think that anything could be of little value.

In spite of the above, I believe that each one of us must think and meditate on what he has to give to Jesus, not necessarily something material, but it can be our youth, our fidelity and our love, for example; it can also be our profession, our commitment and our passion ... they can be endless combinations, but the most important thing is that this gift we will give to history, just like gold, incense and myrrh at that moment. These three men perhaps never imagined that what they gave would be written somewhere or that their names would be remembered forever, indeed, after visiting Jesus they do not appear again in the biblical history, but they did mark a milestone, such as you and I could do it. It is extraordinary what produces giving, generates transcendence and that is something that marks your life and that of others.

That at all times we can reflect on "the gifts" that we are giving to Christ and also to our families, that He and they receive the best of us, that which produces changes and marks stories. Let us transform each one of us into a Melchor, a Gaspar and a Baltazar.

Sort:

Myrrh was one of the ingredients of the anointing oil and this is the perfume of God in us, the sweet smell of Christ:
"For we are for God a sweet smell of Christ in those who are saved ..." (2 Corinthians 2: 15-16).
The gold in our life represents purity and holiness that we must jealously guard as treasures to please God as he manifests it in his word.
INCENSE is a resin, an aromatic gum obtained from the boswellia tree, which grows in the south of the Arabian peninsula and in Somalia. It is obtained by making an incision in the trunk, from which flows a milky liquid that solidifies on contact with air. Pure incense is expensive.

Nice read. I leave an upvote for this article thumbsup
