The prayer of Jabez is a noteworthy declaration of a man who shouted out to God and got an answer. There are a few facts to be gathered from this fascinating man. In the first place, scripture lets us know "Jabez was more good than his siblings; and his mom called his name Jabez, saying, 'Since I bore him in torment' " (1 Chr. 4:9 ESV).

Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked (1 Chr. 4:10 ESV).

The name Jabez implies sorrow. With this name, he was destined from birth to carry on with a life of hopelessness and disappointment.
