BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR SAFETY
Ephesians 6: 10 - 18
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Yesterday, I was blessed to fellowship with a sister congregation during their midweek prayer meeting. I was so blessed with the exhortation and I wish to share with everyone here. As we approach the end of 2018, December seems to be the peak of the year. All hopes are heightened, while some are fearful on what the outcomes will be like in this end of the year. Ii is also important to be conscious that we approach the year's peak, satan is not at rest with his schemes (which includes economic meltdown) in a bid to make life miserable for God's children. This is the aim of this write which seeks to bring us to consciousness of our safety at this year end.
A Scenario
The exhorter shared a story about his personal negligence of safety that costed him so much. He narrated how he went driving earlier during the day without going along with his spare tyre. On sighting the Road Safety Personnel, he had to divert for the fear of being sanctioned for not going along with a spare tyre. The divert direction took him hours to get to his destination which was at the detriment of the assignment he was at. This is one of the prices we pay for neglecting safety.
Failure to be safety conscious can cost us so many things, even our lives. This is so because we did not prioritise safety in our day's dealings. Not being conscious of safety may take the forms as follows:
- Being negligent,
- Forgetfulness,
- Carelessness,
- Poor safety planning
- Non inclusion of safety in daily budget,
- impatience,
- you can name them on and on...
All the above and many more places us in a risk domain which may hamper the fulfilment of our assignment, dreams and even purpose. The risks of not being safety conscious may cause delays, regrets, accidents, extra expenses, loss of trust and integrity, damage of goods and reputation, even death.
Safety Tips for Christians
Our opening Bible reading admonishes Christians the need for equipping ourselves with the safety gadgets. This is because our battles are basically spiritual against opposing forces who are strong are are full of wiles. The adversaries are daily wailing war and throwing darts and are never tired of doing so. This justifies why every christian must be conscious of his/her safety.
The Spirit of God opened my eyes to ten (10) safety tips which I will share with you. This post will only outline them, in subsequent days, a detailed discourse on this tips will be shared.
- Stand
- Belt of Truth - having your loins girt about with truth,
- Breastplate of righteousness;
- Sandals of Peace
- Shield of faith to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
- Helmet of salvation,
- Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
- Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
- Watching thereunto with all perseverance
- Supplication for all saints
Tip 1 - Stand!
Permit to highlight on the first tip - "Stand". It may interest you to note that there is an emphatic mention of the word "stand" about three times in that short passage of the scripture. While "to stand" may not literally sound as a weapon, yet, we see that only at this posture that we can every fight or defend ourselves well. A man who crawls, lies down, kneels, sits at the face of war has lost already. It only takes a man on his standing position to met out a challenge to another or defend himself.
The standing posture indicates readiness and alertness. God is calling us out of a place of drowsiness and weakness to a place of consciousness. Remember Gideon and His 300 men. God's own criteria for selecting men for Gideon for a war was their alertness in drinking from the brook. Wrestling against the devil is not a responsibility that requires a lessee-faire attitude, rather, the shoulder-up and gallant /firm posture which images our Great GOd.
and having done all, to stand.
When we are done doing all we could and can do, we have to keep standing. Infact, no one finds it easy dressing up in the sitting or lying position. We can only gird ourselves with other armoury when we stand! We all have to be conscious that we are soldiers of the cross and we must stand at our post.
