COLLABORATE WITH JESUS AND GET YOUR NET-BREAKING CATCH

Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught." — Luke 5:4

Introduction

God has always engaged humans together with other creations of His hands to actualize His purpose on earth. If we preview the account of creation, we see God commending that each was good. All of His creation, trees, fishes, animals are for a purpose and principally to bring back glory to Him.

Today, God still expects man to collaborate. HE demands unity of the body as each part has a unique function to play for the actualization of His grand designed purpose. Every blessing God has given us today; children, money, house, car are meant primarily to fulfill God’s ultimate purpose of saving mankind.

From the narrative in our opening scripture, we see the necessity of human agency. Though the draught of fishes was miraculous, yet, all the fishermen, their boats and fishing were utilized. All were useful for the successful fishing experience. This principle is applicable in the hunt and catch of souls. While the present economy of grace holds valid, God is pleased by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Our God is self-edified to work without machineries/instruments, but he hath himself selected the plan of instrumentality as being that by which he is most magnified in the earth. He clearly shows that means in themselves are utterly unavailing, yet, at the word of the master, all things respond.

Listen to Peter’s testimony:

"Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing."

What was the reason for this fruitless toil?

Let us take a peek at a few issues and attempt these few questions whether in them we can unravel the reason for the fruitless toil of the fishermen.

• Were they not fishermen plying their special calling? Verily, they were no apprentice, they were experts; they understood the work.
• Had they gone about the toil unskilfully? No., they had tried and toiled all through the night. They employed all their skilling.
• Had they lacked perseverance? No, they had toiled all the night.
• Was there a deficiency of fish in the sea? Certainly not, for as soon as the Master came, they swam to the net in shoals. The fishes were abundant in the water.

The above questions and answers reveal that the fishermen had employed their best as per skilling and collaboration to get the work done, yet, they possibly lacked something that held their catch at bay. They lacked the Divine presence.

There is no power in the means of themselves apart from the presence of Jesus? "Without Him we can do nothing." But with Christ we can do all things.

God wants to make His habitation in us and around us. He wants to be glorified in us and through us. He wants us to engage our machineries at His word. He said:

"I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto me."

Let us be conscious on our work of fishing for souls. While doing this, we must look-up in faith, and around us in solemn anxiety, the presence of the Fruitful Vine. Let us toil till night comes, and we shall not labour in vain, for he who bids us let down the net, will fill it with fishes.
