Simply defined, “Principles” are fundamental truths which have universal applications. Divine principles are designed by God to help us live life effectively and with ease. When rightly applied, principles deliver same results irrespective of person and location. In this series, we are looking at time-tested principles for effective living. Embedded in scriptures are some principles for our profiting.

One of the principles for effective living is discovering and living in purpose.

God created everything for a definite purpose and the fulfillment of that purpose is the essence of creation. Nothing happened by chance.

Specific was the creation of man as recorded in Genesis 1: 26-28.

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Gen 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

David understood the heartbeat of God in PURPOSEFULLY created man as he expressed in Psalms 139. In the 16th verse,

Psalm 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Our design and all what we possess was given to us for a purpose which can be discovered in the mind of God. Our model and Lord, Jesus Christ also acknowledged that God had charted a course for His life:

Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Heb 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

We deliver the expected result of our life only when we live for the fulfillment of that purpose. Indeed, a man walking under God’s purpose has all things working together for his good (Romans 8: 28) because, there are allotment of resources for every step of the way and God always makes provision for the fulfillment of His purpose.

At a point in the life of Jesus, the people wanted to make him king, but because of his purpose which he knew and was working for the fulfillment of, he ran and left such opportunity (John 6:15). If he had accepted, Christianity would probably have been defeated
