STAND STILL, AND SEE THE SALVATION OF THE LORD

Peace be to the Parishioners of the great @Steemchurch. I am glad to bring your way a daily devotion to catalyse your encounter with God via the #sc-devotion tag

"Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." — Exodus 14:13

These words contain God's command to the believer when he or she feels pushed to the wall. Where it seems there is no defense for him or that the world is crumbling upon him; when it seems he is in the midst of the deep see with nothing to hold unto; when it seems he is in a dilemma of two deadly situations.

• What do you do when you are reduced to great straits; and brought into extraordinary difficulties?
• What do you do when you find yourself where you cannot retreat; you cannot go forward; you are shut up on the right hand and on the left?

At such times, here is what the Master says to you - "Stand still."

It will be well if at such times you listen only to the Master's word, instead of giving ears to the suggestions of other evil advisers. At such times, be conscious of the fact that despair, cowardice, precipitancy, and presumption would want to speak down your faith.

Despair would whisper, "Lie down and die; give-up on live." Lo! God won’t be quiet. He tells you to put on a cheerful courage, and rejoice in his love and faithfulness, even in your worst times.

Cowardice may echo, "Retreat; go back to the hireling’s act of withdrawal; it is too difficult to play the Christian's role, Relinquish your faith." On the contrary, this is not God’s bidding for you. His divine fiat is that you grow from strength to strength, as such, you cannot turn away from your course.

Precipitancy would cry "how dare you stand and wait? do something. Stir yourself." Trying to do something on our strength instead of waiting on the Lord would always cause us to despair. It robs us of the blessing of having the God of all possibilities do everything for us.

Presumption can boast, "If the sea be before you, march into it and expect a miracle."

Many times we may forget that while God bids us to stand still for a while is to renew our strength for some greater advance in due time.

Against what despair, cowardice, precipitancy, and presumption says, FAITH listens to neither, but it hears God that says, "STAND STILL," and immovable as a rock it stands.

When we stand still, we keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action, and patiently expecting further orders from God’s directing voice with a cheer. When we stand still, we shall here God say to you, as clearly as He did to Moses and the people of Israel, "GO FORWARD"

Oh God, help me to Stand still and see your great salvation.
