STEEMCHURCH: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PASTOR IN THE CHURCHES.

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Whether it's war, business, family, politics or the church, it's always the same:
As are the leaders, that's the way people are. The leader is always important, and where more is done
evident its importance is in the church. The effectiveness, the testimony and the health of a
The church is mostly a reflection of its leaders, specifically the pastor and philosophy
ministerial that he has.

The pastor is the one who directs the church, is the person with the greatest influence on the congregation,
(or at least that's the way it should be). He is the one who is constantly preaching the Word of
God to the church from the pulpit and from there he shows the congregation the way
where they should walk. The importance of the pastor is that through the serious study of
Word of God discovers the purposes of God (he does not have to invent them) for the church and the
organizes around these purposes thus maintaining a balance that will bring health to the
congregation.

Serious are the consequences of focusing on only one aspect of God's vision for
church. [2] Of many it is known that if the pastor is only an evangelist the church grows a lot
but without much doctrinal base. If the pastor is only a teacher, the tendency of the church is
know a lot about the Bible but only the members are getting fatter. The most terrible thing
that can happen to a church is that the pastor has lost sight and has settled,
manifesting a ministerial laziness that paralyzes the progress of the mission of the church.

From this moment we will see some specific and very important points about how important a pastor is in the church:

  • Preach:

Well, the child was right in a way! The visible work of an elder should focus on the most important thing: the preaching of the Word every Sunday. Without preaching there is no life, and without life there is no church, and without a church there is no pastor. Fundamentally, a pastor is someone who "is apt to teach" (1 Tim 3: 2) and who "preaches the Word" (2 Timothy 4: 2). That is true for new pastors and experienced pastors. We never get tired of preaching and improving in our preaching because it is what gives life to the church. Spurgeon, at the height of his ministry, said "I'm still learning to preach." Show me great pastors in the history of the church and I will show you pastors who preached the Word faithfully.
Paul warned Timothy that preaching is necessary. There are people who "having itching ears, will accumulate teachers according to their own desires; and they will turn away their ears from the truth, and they will turn to myths "(2 Timothy 4: 3-4). There are already enough doctors in mythology in the church today, we do not need more. We need preacher pastors. But that of Truth give testimony of their life as shepherds.

  • Pastor the church:

Etymologically, a shepherd is someone who cares for the sheep. It is interesting that the earthly metaphor we have for this glorious task is one of a shepherd of sheep. The Lord seems to like to prepare his servants using this metaphor. He did it with Moses for forty years, then with David during his youth and he does it with everyone who enters the ministry. The Lord has not called us to be cowboys who go behind the flock whipping. No, the Good Shepherd calls us to be shepherds who go before the sheep, showing the way, praying for them, feeding them, advising them and serving them until they can deliver them holy when the Lord calls us.

Pastor, do you love the Good Shepherd? Then, feed your sheep (John 21:17). The way an old man shepherds his sheep is directly proportional to his love for the Lord.

  • Protects:

I heard a pastor friend say that our task as elders is to "drive away the wolves, shepherd the sheep and ignore the goats". The pastor has the great responsibility to pray for his church and to watch over it, only the prayer of God is the one that leads to a more anointed church every day. But nevertheless. The protection of the shepherd is Fundamental.

  • Promote sanctity:

A man can be a great preacher, a good counselor and a biblical scholar, but if he does not live in holiness, he is not qualified to be a pastor. When the Bible speaks of a pastor, it does not focus on his abilities, but on his character. Of the sixteen qualities of a pastor in 1 Timothy 3: 1-7, only one of them speaks about his competence ("apt to teach"). All other qualities are centered on the character of the minister, of which "irreproachable" is the sum of them. An elder must live in such a way that when accusations come (and will come), they slip by his good name in front of everyone. Of course, the elders are common Christians with the same need for grace as the whole church, but it is that same grace that prepares the elders to live exemplarily the fruit of the Spirit.

So what does a pastor do in the local church? Preach, shepherd, protect, prepare and promote holiness. These things are enough to keep the pastor busy during the week, but "for these things, who is enough? For we are not like many, who thrive falsifying the word of God, but with sincerity, as from God, and before God, we speak in Christ "(2 Cor. 2: 16-17).
