One of the most important characteristics that God teaches us through his word is that He is a compassionate being.

When God sees his children who are suffering and in need, he is moved to help them without anything in return. Never think that God is cold and distant for those who are suffering and needy, it is quite the opposite dear brothers.

Without a doubt He cares for them and helps them (He extends His arms of love). Like many of God's attributes, it should be noted that compassion reveals that the God of the Bible is a God who is intimately in touch with the needs of his people constantly.

Self-definition of God

Basically we do not have to ask ourselves what God is like. In a certain way He tells us what he is like.

God begins his self-definition by the use of his personal name,

Yahweh

. After that, God says this about himself: "The God of compassion and mercy!" Exodus 34: 6.

The first quality of his character that God lets see is compassion. At no time does he say king, saint, full of grace or even loving, But even though all those words certainly describe God. He uses only compassion.

No doubt He helps those who suffer from causes beyond their own account, certainly He helps the poor, the oppressed and the orphans to ALL in general. And it helps those who suffer because of their own sin.

James 5:11, "The Lord is full of tenderness and mercy."

Far from giving us what we always deserve, God shows us mercy and forgiveness to make us shape ourselves and change those things that hurt us.
