Osprey - Pandion haliaetus
I got up early and went to the park today. Joseph dropped me off before he went to work. It was cool and peaceful, as the usual crowds had not yet arrived. The birds were out, though it wasn’t as early as would be ideal. But they were resting along the shorelines and foraging and stretching in the sunlight.
I witnessed this Osprey being chased by what I believe to have been Red-winged Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) shortly after I arrived at the park. They were between the sun and I and I just barely got my camera up for a shot. The Osprey then rested on the island in the center of the pond. It watched and waited and then would swoop out and circle the pond only to land in the tree again and repeat. I’m not sure if it was scouting territory or looking for fish, but it was a delightful surprise to witness.
My mom is visiting and assisting us in getting things ready for baby’s arrival. It has been a great help already.
I’m grateful for all the help from friends and family we have received so far, and all that is yet to come.
