SteemFest² Memories - Breathtaking Sintra, Portugal
As if this year’s officially sponsored events weren’t amazing enough, the SteemFest schedule this year allowed us to venture off on our own away from the city of Lisbon.
On Sunday, my wife Raymi and I traveled to the charming town of Sintra. Sintra lies about 25 kilometers west of Lisbon, and although you can easily travel there by train, we choose Uber instead. By car the trip was about 30 minutes and cost around 15 Euro but the sightseeing tips we received from the driver made the increased price well worth it.
She told us we simply couldn’t go to Sintra without touring Pena Palace, we followed her advice and were very glad we did. After touring the palace we took a harrowing tuk-tuk ride down the mountain to explore the center of Sintra.
Once safely at the foot of the mountain we explored the local shops, had amazing bacalao, mussels, and local wine in a little cafe on the town square and soaked up the warm sun. A street vendor there was roasting chestnuts, which smelled amazing in the coolness of the fall air.
Sintra is one of those places that becomes a part of your soul. We both plan on making it back to Portugal someday soon and possibly making Sintra a homebase for a much longer trip.

I just loved the window into Portugal and your trip, I can see why so many fall in love with this place! I knew when I heard Noah Lennox (Panda Bear the musician) say that when he arrived in Portugal he knew he had come home that it must be a special place. At the time he was one of my fav musicians. btw, love the Beirut song in your first video, it gives a great feel to it. So glad you two had a nice time!
Glad you enjoyed it Ruth! Lisbon itself was charming enough but Sintra blew me away. Beirut is one of my favorite bands of all time. I wrote most of Alarm Clock Dawn to their album The Rip Tide. I hope you can make it next year. It'd be great to hang out!
So much work has happened in my studio to Beirut as well, both Rob and I are big fans. Yes I really must make it next year...each time I miss it my heart breaks, I need to be there! Yes definitely a hang-out is in order.

Have you checked as well the Quinta da Regaleira? A magical place which was used as set for many movies!
No, I really wanted to see it though. I will the next time we're there, for sure!

I am glad I was able to check out Sintra as well. I loved the medieval feel of the town. The view from Pena Palace palace is amazing!
