Steemhunt has a great initiative

in #steemhunt5 years ago (edited)

Yesterday @steemhunt announced that all new accounts registering going through their interface will receive 15 SP delegation for one month. This is huge for a new account and being able to vote and comment from day one is crucial. The 15 SP will allow the new account to make around 4 comments per day. Most likely that will be on Steemhunt until they grow and start to investigate what else is around.

The Dapps on Steem are crucial to it's growth as it is easier to understand a Dapp than it is the Steem block chain. The onboarding of new users will take time and then more time before we see them filtering through and discovering the blogging platform of Steem.

Steem itself I don't think is a big enough draw card for everyone. It takes a certain type of person to walk through the front door and sign up. If they already know someone then that is different, but a first timer unsure of what they are getting into is not for everyone. This is why a Dapp is important as it has peaked their interest to join and only then will they start to understand how much bigger the place really is.

Steem was what drew us all in and now it is the opposite happening. @steemhunt is a perfect site for this as it is fairly simple and straightforward for any new person to understand and get going. The community is fairly strong and have noticed that many users support each other upvoting not only their hunts, but others too including comments. The stronger these Dapps become the stronger the whole platform will be and in a much healthier position.

It will be interesting to see the figures of new accounts coming through these Dapps and what the retention levels are. I would expect retention levels to be higher than the users coming through the normal way using the Steem sign up page.

It's great to see dapps helping new users. I agree with you on Steemit being a bit complicated. I remember when I registered, there were so many new things I had to figure out that I felt lost many times.
These dapps are going to have a future. Those dapps that were just living on delegation will disappear in no time.

I would have loved to have joined through a Dapp as it would be way easier to understand what is going on plus easier to earn. The Dapp's living on delegation had no chance.

Well, what's done is done, I'm glad I had the strength to go through the hard period of learning and understanding things and I'm glad I didn't give up.
You've done a great job.

Thank you, yes I have and think everyone has who has stuck with it. This place challenges you every step of the way and it is just a matter of growing at whatever speed you are comfortable with.

I agree, it is a challenge, all day, every day, I'm feeling that now more than ever.

"Steem was what drew us all in and now it is the opposite happening. @steemhunt is a perfect site for this as it is fairly simple and straightforward for any new person to understand and get going."

@steemhunt isn't a perfect site for that. Maybe there's a steemhunt website that is, but what you linked to was this:
https://steemit.com/@steemhunt

Where, as someone who still had no idea what steemhunt was after reading your post, I saw it's a profile that hunts (something, somehow, apparently products) and has something to do with rewarding (hunters maybe? something to do with products)...

As an account, @steemhunt has over 6000 followers, and from the tagline on the account I can see that it claims to be: Daily Ranking for Effortlessly Cool Products That Rewards Hunters

Those words mean stuff to you people?

What's a dAPP anyway? A decentralized App? What's a decentralized App? An app you can't buy on a centralized App store?

I dunno - everyone seems to like new people, but somewhere along the way you've learned all the jargon and seem to have forgotten what a foreign language it is to "normies".

What does the confused new user that hears steemhunt is something cool when they google it, and click through the first result?

"perfect site for this as it is fairly simple and straightforward for any new person to understand and get going."
or
"a mysterious list of products with up arrows and dollar amounts"...

Does seem to be popular with you guys though - I'm guessing because those product people consider it advertisement, and consider your engagement on the products proof that their products are being shown to people... but that's just a hunch, as despite the reading and the clicking through.

Though - making a new account and not being able to interact WAS very offputting a couple of months ago when I first got on here . Anyway, there's some feedback from someone clearly "not in the know"

If you are "not in the know" you need to look around you and see the opportunities. When I started I struggled for the first 3 months, there were no other sites with earning opportunities. Steem takes time to get momentum and to build an account. A site like Steemhunt will give you a leg up and you will grow quicker. It doesn't take long to understand and just get involved. Musing was slightly easier to understand, but they have stopped for the time being.
I am glad you are still around, just bear with it as it does take time.

The point I was trying to make was that while enough Steem Power to participate when you make a new account is a great initiative, but it's like because it's crypto everything has to be in code. It's like everything is so cryptic that even a site designed to make life easier for new people doesn't explain itself on it's profile or it's actual website.

For example (and this is a guess as I still really don't know what you guys/it does...): Welcome to Steemhunt! Here, we hunt for products together (on steem?) for fun, community and profit. Click for our new user guide to take you through account creation and get you started!

I understand what you are saying and agree somewhat as well. Nothing seems to be easy on here. I am the most clueless tech guy around so this has been so out of my comfort zone. If I can learn and do it then anyone can. Unfortunately there is no clear instruction manual here to take you through a step by step process.

Steemhunt has been one of the most consistent dapps in terms of achieving goals and continuous development.

It takes a certain type of person to walk through the front door and sign up. If they already know someone then that is different, but a first timer unsure of what they are getting into is not for everyone. This is why a Dapp is important

Youre right about this, steemhunt platform quite simplifies it as dapps should

I have been really impressed with what they are building there. The community is strong and supportive and I can only see great things for them in the future.
The choices a new user has now is totally different from when we joined. There are so many opportunities to earn that growth should be a lot easier from what most of us experienced..

While i like the steemhunt (even if i not so active lately), there is a minor thing: "many users support each other upvoting not only their hunts, but others too including comments"

Unfortunately, this is not a direct support, but its well known, the steemhunt have the most effective voting circle collection on steem blockchain :D
But the primary reason to the commentvotes, its simple the calculating of hunt score, where is a big part the comment voting activity. If you dont vote to comments, your score will be smaller.

Not a problem, or not a bad thing, but have to know :)

This is a huge milestone to onboad new users, awesome move from them. :)

It is a big positive move and I think it will bear fruit.

90% of the account is processed by Steemit at the moment, maybe dapps will change the game in the future.

Just makes sense.

I saw this the other day too and I was pretty excited about it. I was able to create my account a long time ago when a witness group was doing something similar to this and I can say that having that SP to start off with was a huge deal. I think this is going to be a real benefit for a lot of people out there.

I like that steemhunt just ploughs along without any drama . It’s a nice little project. I hope it does well .
