The sharing economy really hit it of with AirBnB. It didn't take long before other sharing services emerged. For long, one of the products that was left out, is our own car. But not anymore!
Now we have SnappCar. Founded in the Netherlands a few year ago, it expanded quickly and covers a good part of Europe and has the ambition to go worldwide.

Regular renting has to deal with so many expenses related to management, legal, administration etc. This will help to bring the prices down. So company based car renting might end up being something reserved for more luxury cars.
On the negative side we can expect the quality to go ll over the place. We have already seen this with AirBnB. The quality isn't consistent even with all the rating systems. But as long as it's not a long term commitment, I'd say most people would be willing to go through a few hiccups.
agree wrt to quality, but indeed, people will get the experience. i've rented a couple of times, and because it is a car, most people will rent from someone who lives in the neighbourhood. therefore, before fetching the car, the renter can already see it. the fact people can see the product in real life and most of the time will meet the owner, is in itself a negative to the offering of snappcar and similar services: a deal can easily be made outside the system of snappcar. therefor these companies need to expand their portfolio. snappcar already did this by adding private lease services, where people can lease a car for a month or longer period. this is offered including the sharing with others. the cars for this service are provided by the established car lease companies giving the one who leases a kinda a guaranteed quality since they use cars of a limited age.
on the other hand, although deals can be made outside the snappcar service, it is the insurrance snappcar includes that will result in car owners to not want to rent out their car directly, but use the snappcar service.

Very cool. I guess it was just a matter of time before this concept made it's way to our own personal cars. Image how simple this will be when cars are autonomous! Seems like this service figured out a lot of the potential issues as well (i.e. insurance, unlocking...etc) very cool!

yeah indeed, the tackled the key issues indeed. at first they didn't provide an insurance; after a while the figured, they needed to include an insurance to get more growth. it took them a little while to find an insurance company, but finally they did.
