If we'll be sincere with ourselves, we are addicted to our mobile devices. I know that I use my phone when using the toilet and it also follows me into the bathroom and I can almost swear I am not alone in this sort of situation. If you ask me, most people hold better conversations while chatting than when having physical conversations.

Screen Time, a section on Apple's upcoming iOS12 will consist of several features which are aimed at helping their users have a better understanding of their devices and manage how they use theim.

Merits:

It helps in reducing interruptions as it enables users to view as well as control the delivery of applications.
It aids in acquiring information on device usage during a certain period of time.
It can help improve the quality of sleep users get because during Bedtime mode, the "Do Not Disturb" feature helps to dim the display a well as hide notifications on the lock screen until they are requested upon the user's awakening.
It can help parents monitor what applications their children use the most as well as control when various applications can be used.
Users are able to set a limit to when certain applications or even the entire phone can be used (thus providing time for getting involved with actual humans).
The reports made on activities are so accurate that you can actually get information on how many times an iOS device was picked.
It can aid users in combating addiction to their various devices.

Demerits :

It can prevent users from getting access to certain information, as certain notifications might not come up especially during night time mode.
A parent who prevents their child from using their phone at certain times might prevent the child from being able to call the necessary authorities such as during a fire or occurrence of health hazards.
It will only available for iOS12 users.
