This projects can be funded by users as long as they feel the product fits into their categories. With collaborate any tech product established can accomplish greater heights.

I doubt if those with budgets will need anything open source or decentralised. People with budgets would like to monetize research, so ideal for centralized environments.
The idea of opening science and building a network of fellow scientists like this will greatly impact on improving the quality of research, because with the openness of data and research, research work will be even easier because of the collaboration of many parties, the final effect on the progress of humanity.
