Hunter's comment

Wechat is a mobile messaging app created by Tencent, a Chinese tech company. As of March 2018 WeChat had over 1 billion active users, making it the second most used messaging app in the world. Can you guess which app came in first?

WhatsApp.

As for WeChat, it is by far the most prevalent messaging app in China and does a whole lot more than just send messages. With WeChat, you can basically doing anything that you would regularly do online. Buy movie tickets, figure out the how to get somewhere on the subway, view your friends latest social media posts, they are all possible on Wechat.

In the graph above you can see the user base for popular messaging apps, the graph is almost 5 years old, but still the top 3 remain the same, just many more users now

Having recently moved to China, I have first hand experience on how popular this app is. Probably it's biggest feature, (besides messaging) is WeChat pay, which is basically like a debit card on your phone. You scan a vendors QR code and pay directly in the app or have the merchant scan your personal QR code and confirm the payment, simple fast and efficient,

As you can see in the photo above, there are a whole lot of different things you can do within the app, pay your bills, top up your phone credit, donate to charity etc. QR codes are becoming more popular by the day and WeChat is leading the industry in this regards.

As for my personal thoughts, if you live in China, Wechat is a must. If you live outside of China it is not that popular because a lot of the functions are specifically built for Chinese users. However, the use cases for non-Chinese users is growing on a continual basis and I foresee more and more people using this app in the future.

What messaging app do you use? It seems that there are more and more each week, I personally use Wechat, WhatsApp, Kakao, Line and Facebook Messenger, to say I am connected to the web would be an understatement.

Hi Hunter,

thanks for your effort explaining Wechat, but as you start your comment it has more than 1Billion active users. Please always remind that Steemhunt is about new and cool products.
Your hunt is delisted based on PG 12 and Posting guideline 6 (new)

Your format for your comment is good tho, so keep up the hunting~!

"12. Mobile/Web Extention Apps

Like games, there are tons of mobile/web extention applications nowadays, and many of them are too generic to be featured on Steemhunt. If you share the following apps, we may delist your hunting post:

Apps that only have web browsing or read-only features.
Apps that already have many downloads/reviews (with the exception of apps that have released a completely new version).
Copy cat of a renowned app.
Apps considered extremely similar to previously hunted apps."

Please read our Posting Guideline here, you can appeal in our Discord Channel. Find the #mod-jayplayco Channel and always add your STEEMHUNT link for questions. Thanks"""

Cheers for the detailed response Jay. Is there a threshold an app or product must hit before they are considered to be "not new"? I have seen discord and telegram as steemhunt products and neither of those is new, they both have millions of users and are well known in the cryptosphere.
I did mention that Wechat has tons of in app mini programs to use but I was not specific to any of them.

Just want to be clear for next time. Thanks

Hi @jasonshick and thanks for understanding. Discord and telegram apps would be hunts that are already some days old(maybe weeks). Due to the fast evolution of Steemhunt the PG(posting guideline) is also evolving very fast to guide Steemhunt into the right direction. Therefore it can always happen that you will find old hunts verfied which would not be verified in the current circumstances.

If you want to have a deeper understanding about how Steemhunt is thinking about Apps have a look at the following article.

The last part with "Tales from the HuntCave" is giving a good insight. Additionally there has been a PG12 implemented which can be found here

will check it out, cheers
