We all purchase cotton clothes or polyester clothes and also purchase leather goods. However, the evil behind the production of these goods is known to everyone. Its not environmentally sustainable and polyester, well god knows when it'll degrade. So when you throw your gym t-shirt away, you're just adding to global waste and polluting the environment.
Lot of innovation is underway to develop fibres and textiles that consume less resources and are environmentally sustainable. One such company, Green Banana Paper is making wallets for men and women from vegan leather that's made out of banana fibre - which itself is made from waste banana stems usually discarded by banana farmers.
Banana yarn or cloth is made by boiling strips of the sheath in an alkaline solution to soften and separate them. Once this is done, the fibres are joined together to create long threads which are then spun wet, in order to prevent them from breaking.

I've never heard of anything made out of banana peels and fibres in my whole life. What a great idea though.
They must be of good quality if the Green Banana Paper company are giving a 1 year warranty on it.

Yup, from the photos as well, the fibre looks damn strong. Lots of new fibres coming out - papaya, pinapple and coffee grounds. I also came across clothing made from cannabis fibre.

Looks sturdy and comes with one year warranty. Should outlast cheap leather. And it's not that expensive either.
Eco friendly products are most accepted now. Useful idea.

There's actually a lot of such new vegan leather options coming up - pinapple, papaya and this one. Even clothing - hemp fibre, coffee ground fibre. Its really good to see these things, hopefully they become mainstream.
