In this hunt, I present Pupil – an accessible, affordable, and extensible open source platform for pervasive eye tracking and gaze-based interaction. Pupil comprises a light-weight eye tracking headset, an open source software framework for mobile eye tracking, as well as a graphical user interface to playback and visualize video and gaze data.
Pupil features high-resolution scene and eye cameras for monocular and binocular gaze estimation. The software and GUI are platform-independent and include state-of-the-art algorithms for real-time pupil detection and tracking, calibration, and accurate gaze estimation.
Results of a performance evaluation show that Pupil can provide an average gaze estimation accuracy of 0.6 degree of visual angle (0.08 degree precision) with a processing pipeline latency of only 0.045 seconds.
You wear Pupil like a pair of glasses. Pupil connects to a computing device via a USBA or USBC cable. The headset is designed to be lightweight and adjustable in order to accommodate a wide range of users.
The last photo at the top is an illustration of a monocular Pupil Headset, depending on your configuration your headset might look different, but working principles are the same.
Capture Workflow
First
- Properly put the Pupil headset and plug it in to the computer. Making it sure that there is a space between the headset frame and to your forehead.
Second
- Start the Pupil Capture
Third
- Check the Pupil detection by looking at the eye window. If the Pupil was detected you will see a red circle around the edge and a red dot at the center of your pupil.
Fourth
- Calibrate it by establishing a mapping between the pupil and gaze positions.
Last
- Record ,Pupil Capture will save the video stream and all corresponding gaze data in the folder.
Be sure to check that your eyes are well positioned for a robust eye tracking performance.
