There are several concepts for "Docker", since it can refer to:
An IT (Information Technology) software, which is a technology that allows the creation and use of Linux containers.
The Open Source community, its goal is to improve technologies benefiting users.
In this case we will talk about the first option, the IT software, with Docker you can create containers as lightweight and portable virtual machines, for any application that can run on any machine with Docker installed independent of the operating system since it is multiplatform.
A container is a box in which the information is stored and can be carried from one place to another independently, that is, it is portable.
How does Docker work?
This technology uses the Linux kernel and some functions of it, to separate processes and can run independently, that is the intention of containers, have the ability to run processes independently and the infrastructure works best way.
Docker offers a copy of implementation, which allows to share an application with all its dependencies in various environments, it also increases security and reduces costs in less time without having to change the code of the application.
"These tools developed in Linux containers, makes Docker a user-friendly and unique technology, gives users unprecedented access to applications, the ability to quickly deploy, and control versions and their distribution."
We must clarify that Docker's technology is not the same as Linux container technology, since Docker was developed based on LXC technology, which is mostly associated with "traditional" Linux containers, despite the fact that LXC was useful as lightweight virtualization was not feasible for a developer's experience, unlike Docker, which contributes more in the ability to run containers, facilitating the development and creation of containers.
