It's a lot easier than you think! Electron is the platform you've been waiting for to start creating the web applications you want...What are you waiting for? Come on, let's go!
"Electron is a framework for creating native applications with web technologies such as Javascript, HTML and CSS. He'll take care of the toughest parts so you can focus on the core of your application."
Formerly known as Atom Shell.
It can also be considered a closed desktop application, and is maintained by the official community that supports the Chromiun-based, open source GitHub project.
But... what is a framework? It is a set of concepts, practices and criteria to solve a type of problem, which will serve as a reference framework to avoid and solve future problems.
With Electron you can create applications with JavaScript, HTML and CSS, using the Node.js runtime as the back-end and Chromium component for the front-end. .
It will allow you to download all the guides and references you need to get started in the development of framework applications.
The advantages of this framework is that it is multiplatform (It is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux), easily integrates with the desktop, easily creates web applications, comes with automatic updates, menus, notifications, as well as including debugging, bug reports.
It should be noted that Electron uses web pages as a graphical user interface, so it will look like a Chrome browser, controlled by Javascript.
Get to know some of the applications made with Electron:
- Skype
- Wordpress
- Atom
- Jibo
