MS Roald Amundsen is the first of two hybrid ships Hurtigruten will add to its fleet over the next few years. Emissions are cut by sailing with electrical propulsion. Innovative sustainable technology reduces fuel consumption and CO2-emissions on the ships by 20 percent.
i mean 20% is better than not i guess. it's not quite there yet and it's going to take many many iterations i'm sure to build a cruise ship that can truly be net negative. Still, great to see companies understanding that their brand and image is effected if they are not seen to at least try and be better at not being god awful polluters.
pretty sure they are not storing up that 530 passenger multiple daily toilet trips for use as bio mass propulsion yet ;)
