Thousands of students gathered on Friday in the northern German city of Hamburg as part of a global protest calling for action to curb global warming.

The Swedish activist, Greta Thonberg, who has become a leading voice in the fight against climate change, is leading Friday's march in the northern coastal city.

Earlier in January, the 16-year-old girl spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where she told business leaders and government leaders: "I want you to feel panic.
Students at the Hamburg protest carried banners with slogans such as "Walk now or swim later" - in reference to rising sea levels due to melting glaciers - and "We (Greta").
