What's What! Video Game Facts (55/365)
DigiPen the Institute of Technology for gamer.
DigiPen it isn't your typical university. Located in Redmond, Washington, Singapore, and in Spain, this institute is a global center for the development of video games. The for-profit university offers a unique approach to education, why is this surprising well is because it biggest focus is to enter the industry as world-class programmers, artists, designers, engineers for the creation of video games.
It was founded in 1988 by Claude Comair in Vancouver, Canada, Comair a true master in the design of video games who served as one of the founders of Nintendo software technology and 29 US patents to his credit, decides to change the headquarters to Washington in 1998, since in 1996 the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board granted the necessary licenses to DigiPen to award degree programs in the United States.
The Bachelor of Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation, as well as the Applied Arts Degree in 3D computer graphics 3D Computer Animation, convert DigiPen the first university in the world dedicated to teaching the creation of video games. From the first year, the student made contact with features of the creation of video games such as 3D rendering, and is usually the first real contact with physics, artificial intelligence and networking that is used in video games. In later years, when they gain more experience, they have more control and freedom to create the art and structure of the video game, allowing students to focus on the part that interests them most about video game design.
It is surprising that in reality video games started with almost self-taught engineers, trying to apply the limits of the technology of that time, now there are careers based specifically on the field of video games, not just engineers, artists, designers.
