Writers! How Will Your Audience Find You?

in #steemit5 years ago

You vs Google.

There are two things you must find to bring you success as a writer: your niche and your audience.

No matter if you write for medical journals or sci-fi magazines, the faster you find these two things, the quicker your climb up the ladder to success.

When you first start out writing, you'll be taking on a variety of assignments. Honing your craft and finding your voice while seeing what works and what pays. After a time you'll find yourself writing more on a particular subject. Some writers choose their niche because they are already well versed in the subject, while other writers develop a liking in a certain area and work to become an expert through research. Successful writers stand on a solid foundation of knowledge and expertise in one subject. They rock it inside and out, with their passion showing through in their words.

They own it.

Own your niche.

What do you write about? Tell me in ten words or less. If you can't you might not be pinpointed enough in your niche selection or you have not found yours yet.

Now you have a niche. You are distinguished with a certain subject after building a reputation as an expert in that material. Once your reputation is viewed as an authority in that theme you are more respected and marketable. And, therefore, demand higher pay per piece.

Now your audience has to find you.

People need to remember you by what you write. How do they do that?

Think of how you look for a particular book. You go into the bookstore or library and ask for this book. But you can't remember the title. What will the clerk ask you? The name of the author.

But what if you can't remember the name of the author?

You'll stumble about with a sort of synopsis that's particular enough yet concise with hope that the person can zero in on that book you want.

You want to write in such a way that one can say: "she writes teen vampire novels," or "he wrote a novel about the murder of a family in the Midwest," or even, "he writes about how to get ornery cats to settle down and be part of the family." This makes it easy for clerks, librarians, and even google searches to hone in and find you and your writings. Your author website should highlight your niche and be a stellar representation, in ten words or less.

Think of yourself as a Google search.

How will someone searching for you find you?

Thank you for being here for me, so I can be here for you.
Enjoy your day and stay creative!
Botty loves you. <3

Thank you back, Botty <3

You are BACK!!!! I was so worried about you. I hope that you were gone from Steemit to be with your grandchild - not because you were sick...

Hope all is well and that you are healed from that terrible accident.

Much love!

Well..... I had some medical complications. Internal injuries were worse than they thought. But I was fortunate to have met and am being treated by an excellent Neuro surgeon, and am happy to report I'm finally on the upswing :)

I missed you! Oh, and as a side note, my little nipote' is super healthy and happy and growing with each blink of the eye- he's only 4 1/2 months old and already in size 5 diapers!

I am so glad that you are finally on the upswing. Sending you lots and love and healing. That was crazy sh*t you had to go through because they can't fix their tunnel...

And wow on size 5 diapers!! It goes so fast!!! My little dudes are not babies anymore and while I love to see them grow - babies are especially cute.

So glad you are back.

Thanks sweets <3 Muah!

I don't know what made me check on you tonight. You've been gone so long I thought you'd either left permanently or life had gotten too "complicated" to keep up with its demands and Steemit's too. I'm so glad to see you here -- and your post is excellent as always. I hope otherwise all is well. I know life lately has been pretty dramatic.

I was thinking of you. You must have caught my brainwaves ;)

I'll write a public post at some point, but basically the last few months have been a medical nightmare. I was fortunate to find an excellent neurosurgeon and long story short- I'm finally getting better.

For real this time ;)

It's wonderful to see you! And it's great to be back :) Thank you <3

I was thinking of you. You must have caught my brainwaves ;)

That happens more than you know. There really is something to this "psychic connection" thing sometimes. I'm glad you're back and doing better. You need some positive times now -- lots of them. I really look forward to seeing more of your work here now -- so, don't be a stranger!

Yes! Bring those positive times now- the guest room is all made up and fancy and coffee's on!

Happy to see you posting again!

I hope that you've been recovering well and having fun with your grandbaby! 🤗 Also, here's more hope that your work with your show and game creation have been running smoothly! 😁

I've not settled into a niche for the writing that I do on Steemit. I write short fiction with an occasional educational piece.

Have a lovely day!

Hey hun! How have you been?

My first game is published :) it's called Infinite, and is available in almost every country EXCEPT the US! Grrrr! And... I'm currently working on a trilogy game series that's going to be EPIC!

My lil nipote' is fat and sassy and growing so fast I swear he's going to be six foot tall before he enters high school!

Depending on your style and what you write about, not having a niche on steemit can be good. Not having a niche IS your niche ;)

The last few months have been rough emotionally (ha! and financially) but my loved ones know they are cared for, have roofs over their heads and bellies full of food so I'm going to call it a win. 😁

Congrats on Infinite! Curious, I did a quick search to check it out but, no dice. That's okay, I'll get my nerd on later and try again! Ha! Glad to see you excited with your 3-parter. Also laughing that you teased me with "Epic"... 😉

Aww! Fat and sassy is excellent news! 💗 Watching their little minds at work and hearing those giggles that come up from their toes can just make the day feel perfect. And then they learn how to open cupboards, the fridge, and every box in the closet ... 😂

6 ft tall by high school! I'm picturing the grocery bills! 😱

When financial woes come about it's definitely a load of stress on everyone in the home, but love and full bellies definitely smooth much of the burden <3 You're doing a great job :)

Eegads- the grocery bills. They are not something I like to think about, mainly because it makes me realize I should have purchased stock in grocery stores waaay back when my boys were just wee lads in diapers...

Good advice. I really wish steemit had a way to set up channels for different posts from the same account. tags just don't dot and multiple accounts are just too much trouble to maintain.
