A lack of motivation

in #steemit6 years ago

Steem is a place that it seems the more time you put in the more you get out of it (not money, but enjoyment!). As the summer comes to an end and I move back to my 'normal' life my plan was to get stuck back into Steem over the colder months. However, as summer comes to an end I am finding a real lack of motivation to get back into it.

Time

Time is probably the biggest reason I find the idea of posting/engaging on Steemit tough. Yes I will have the time if I want to, but it comes down to what is most important. I work, travel, read books, excersise and more and at this time I think these are more important to me than blogging! I dont think this will mean I will power down or never post again but I think I might post a few times a week at most (rather than most days!)

Sometimes less is more anyway, as posting every day can get tiring (and difficult to come up with meaningful content). I think posting only when I have something I really find interesting or want to share might be a better approach

Price

I would be lying if I was to say that the dramatic fall in price of Steem over the last few months hasn't affected my motivation to post at least a little bit. I know that Steem (along with loads of other crypto projects) have the potential to be game changers, but its hard to see long term when all the price is doing is falling. When I joined in February, the price of Steem was around $3.50, and now it is around $0.70 - thats pretty disheartening.

I am really a believer in the long term success of Steem, which is why I still plan to stick around in some form or another.

Lack of Rewards and engagement

When I started on Steem I spent alot of time on steem.chat, discord and just generally engaging with others (as this is what I assumed would grow my account). Although I have met some really amazing people along the way, I still feel undervalued for the time I have put in - while others seem to post all sorts of trash and get more attention and rewards than me. It seems strange that I have over 1k followers but only get a handful of upvotes at most (and often from the same people - shoutout to my loyal followers!)

Conclusion

Steem has been a great place for me to post about topics that interest me while earnign a few extra dollars. However, after being on holiday and having time away from Steem I realise there are alot better and more productive ways to spend my time. So althoguh I wont be powering down anytime soon I don't think I am going to be to active in the near future

I don't plan on going anywhere as the pennies earned today are dollars for tomorrow. I do feel and I assume most feel the same as you do. The current Steemit landscape is the issue. The upvote values are too top heavy and the votes at the bottom are too undervalued. This causes very very very slow account growth and is one of the main reasons for very poor user retention on Steemit and by extension poor user retention on our blogs.

To bad @conradt ,but I do understand. Sometimes it looks unfair seeing rewards for rubbish and none dor your own good content. And it does takes a lot of effort on the platform.
