What if steemit auto-delegated all daily unused whale voting power to active curators?

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

Let's say that all unused voting dollars each day would be spread automatically over all the votes that actually took place that day, or the next day. * Edit: This post contains ideas of a steemit newbie who did not yet learn the steemit system, so see it as ideas from outside of the box, that does not however in all way come from someone understanding the box... ;)

It could either be spread over everyone's votes or spread over some hundred trusted active curators' votes.

Would that not make a big positive impact for Steemit, as the income of Steemians would be so much higher and the word probably would get out so much more?

This whale said to donate your unused whale power for the good of the community. :)

If the voting dollars are budgeted for already, why not use them and not just let them disappear on inactive Whales/Orcas/Dolphins accounts because they don't have time or drive to use or delegate them?

It might cost more money for Steemit short term of course, but it might be more beneficial for Steemit if it became a more attractive higher income community where the active voters felt that their votes had a higher worth?

Or am I thinking wrong? If so, please excuse and feel free to educate a newbie who think it seems fair and beneficial for the platform and community that unused voting power from inactive voters go to the active voters.

I can't play @elsiekjay's video "An Open Message to Whales/Orcas/Dolphins Who Sit on Their VP" due to my slow Manila hotel wifi, but from just reading the comments and title my questions above came to mind.

If this Kenyan dolphin had steempower to donate to help the community I think it would. :D

Do you think of delegating some power but not sure how to do it?

I would personally like to delegate my extra power when I don't have time to use it and it seems like the user @tipu can help with how to do this and maybe there are other ways to get help as well?

If you want to delegate, make a comment and tag @tipu and write like this:

I want to delegate X sp to @user Where X is the amount of SP and @user is the steem user you want to delegate to.

Now @tipu will answer with a delegation link that you can use to delegate the power.

In your opinions, who are the best active curators that use up their power daily to donate our voting power to when we don't use it all?

And what are the best and most recent steemit links on the subject of delegating voting power?

Feel free to comment about this and any of your thoughts on delegating voting power.

What if voting power could be set to 10x and 100x so that before leaving steemit for the day, one could upvote a few articles with the rest of one's resource dollars?

I would love to do so, now I have 75% resources left but no time left for steemit today.

I really wish that I could turn my votes up to 1 000% or 10 000 % to actually finish off my resources by giving some dimes or dollars per upvote to worthy people.

It would feel so much more worth my time to just look up 1-10 posts that feel worthy of my resources than looking for tens and tens of articles and give away tiny amounts of money to each. So tiny amounts that would be insignificant to the people I upvote anyways.

Thanks for reading and sharing your point of view!

P.S. Do you need extra resources?

Let me know if you are low on resources and what you want my your resources for and I'll try to delegate a part of mine to a few different people whenever I don't use it.

I wish that steemit would have a page that showed those who has consistently been running out of power and who voted a lot almost daily in the last month so one could go and delegate power to them where one would know that it's not going to be unused.

Or maybe a "resource fund" and if one donates to that it will then automatically be delegated to the next steemian who runs out of resources that day.

I cannot think of anything you less need to be doing than delegating out your tiny sp. Instead, go to this course and learn about the money here and get 50 sp delegated to you.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@paulag/minnow-showcase-free-steem-training-and-free-steem-power-delegation-8

The biggest fails I have seen here are people who do not take the time to learn the zillions details in the first months here. You will save yourself all kinds of pain by going step by step.

Definitely do not worry about the big guys and what they do here. That is a path to misery and a lot of wasted effort. Just put the blinders on and grow your own account as best you can and then when you get to 5000 or 50000 sp, you will be ready to deal with it.

thanks for the mention. And this is so true and great advice

I looked when I first got here two years ago and someone told me to go "whale hunting!" Once was quite enough of that nonsense lol.

Thank you for your advice @fitinfunfood and @paulag! After hearing more from @swedishdragon and you guys I understand a little more and I think you are right for sure.

I'll focus more on my content and also learn bit by bit about how it works here in time.

Gonna check your @paulag link now and see if I have time to apply, or however that works. :)

I think the course is about one hour, so it should not be too hard. It is on my list to take it myself since the money is so complicated here. After 2 years, I still have holes in my knowledge.

A good goal is to post once each 24 hours. Few succeed here with less than that and most of the successful people do 2-3 posts each day. It's impossible to get noticed or make good rewards with less.

Nice and intressting post ! so im one of them dolphins actually x 2 times lol
First of as you dont have enuff sp you dont see this, but in my case&the orcas , whales, earn by juuust sitting on their sp!! If i ref my wallet my sp will have grown, do to you guys transactions..... Secondly just lending out /delegating , i/we lose our reveenu of that sp.... And if i now think/belive delegating is the way to go, i would do that to bots ;) as i then get paied for it ;) Thirdly me delegating ;will hold my sp hostage after i pull said delegation for 5 full days.... so its not a instant direct thing you can do as a transaction :)
And last, i was a red fish/minnow to, sat with nothing, my sp comes from hard work and time!!!! im not intrested in just handing it out millivanilli, i think most of us over 5K sp feels that way, and in my case this is buissnes, i handel my act as i do my visacard ;) LOL with love and care :D
ok that was my 2 cents any way :P

Thanks for your reply and great explanation @swedishdragon , I appreciate that you share it and I totally understand that one must look after one's business. :)

Reading this I realized that there is much more to this that I had no idea about and don't yet fully understand, but look forward to understand in the future and this was a good start! Would love to ask you some more about this side of things.

Mind if I ask some questions? Or if you rather want me to google this and find a tutorial I totally understand! :D

I'm asking both to understand the system and also to consider if it would make financial sense to send in for example litecoins and power up to 5 k to diversify and not just have litecoin, btc, ethereum and so on.

What does it mean to "ref" a wallet?

How does it grow and how do you mean due to others transactions?

Let's say that i have 5k SP sitting for 30 days on 100% without voting, how much would it grow to in 30 days?

Is it always the same growth in %?

Would it grow less if I would myself vote and write with it so it goes down to 75, 60 and 25% at times or is there only a difference if I delegate?

Does it grow the same on for example 500 or 1 k as well?

Hope it helped some :) Im happy to awnser your questions and help out, as i was leaft with out not fully grasping it(the eco system here on steemit) i made a loot of idiotic misstakes ;) :P LOL
First lets do a show & tell, while your reading my responce and respond your self; GO to MY wallet, have that page open. I like you to refresh my wallet page AFTER we are done talking. This so you can seeee the full effect of larger Sp (look at my sp) :)

Hmm, I don't understand exactly what you mean, I have looked at these two, is that what you mean? :)

https://steemitwallet.com/@david-krug/transfers
https://steemitwallet.com/@swedishdragon/transfers

ha ah this starts out great ;) Yes use the second one, my wallet. Hang on let me see if i can do a screen grab :)
first is before i started typing your responce
ScreenHunter 58.png
see, my SP, look at the end ..077
and this is after i refresh my wallet
ScreenHunter 59.png
shabang, we now got ..097 AND thats juuust sitting ;) :P and after less then 1 hour :D

Ok, yes, that's sweet. But everything depends with what you compare it with of course. Having bitcoin for the last 3 months has been great, but compared with litecoin it has kind of sucked. But when it goes down it's great to have bitcoin ;) So while one makes money from staking there could also be hidden "losses"/"missing out" from not owning something else that appreciates faster. :D Lots of math. :D Plus the risk calculation of course..

LOL ofcourse it do, im a spoiled brat & cant even understand how it is for people who cant make ends meet...
I wish my ex hubby hade allowed me to buy bitcoins back in DA day BUT heay divorce do pay of ;) he he I made a decent profit on bitcoin, as i siad before, never got into litecoin and there for never 'saw' the diffrence LOL
See, i think it depends on -how you play the game I as a person, like instant direct, and by that the losses/movements in bitcoin is drastic O.o BUT when it comes to money, im slow as F.. i make careful math calculations, pros and cons.. and play the long game. So by that, i dident spass when bitcoin or and steem dropped.. ;) slow & steady wins the race LOL
I think, the loss is huger by not taking the risk or in this case, not owning any thing, as intrest of something is bigger then intrest of nothing :D

How you play the game? Like this?

He-understands-how-game-played.gif

Great conversation and topic...

oh to really see how you can make sp, use steembd, (change to your username) https://steemdb.com/@swedishdragon/curation

Of course you can google it but im here to help, so im happy to try :D
Ok first of 5k of sp is 0.34bitcoin Or and 29litecoin(do note im not familiar with litecoin, i dont trade in it :P LOL ) Do you have that juust laying around? AS never invest(steemit is after all a crypto currency and we dont know what will happend) in a amount you cant lose ;)
Yes finance vise it make sence to power up and buy sp. As you gain power of the blockchain ;)
See steemit as a big pie, the more sp you hold, the more power you have over the pei... and the more of the pie you will get ;) :D do note 10% will always go to the pool & the witnesses, soo its also importent to vote for your vitnesses & pick them you think help the platform the best :D
Secondly, juust sitting on crypto is never good......
ref= refresh ;)
It grows by transaction; that is ALLLLL activety on the platform, votes, coments, post and sooo on LOL You can alss mine it :)
My sp(MVEST) grows as i hold a bigger peice of the total found, as soon as anyyy member do a transaction :P anyone with sp will get a piece but its not notebel until you hold more sp /MVEST.
Oh god what a question LOL first it depends on the amount of transaction during that 30days, i might be of in my math now, ok? i think its around 20sp or so. BUT do note thats juust sitting......
No its not, as my sp grows and i get a bigger peice, that grows PLUS this number is my act doing nooothing.. As soon as i do something i earn more ;)
Aww noow your comeing to my ballpark- curations ;) this boat i rock LOL
see, by curating i make around 2sp A DAY ;) and thats ona bad day LOL
Curating is fab, as your making your vp work for you, while you do nothing LOL & again, the more and better act i upv the bigger my reward will be PLUS here is were MVEST come in, i can earn 6000MVEST per day but now it depend IF i was smart to get BEFORE the bigger acts upv LOL
I think i covered all now? ;)

Thank you so much for explaining. I might have more than that, I might not, this is the internet so... :D Why is it not good to just sit on hoodle (honest question). Sitting on 100 K USD in bitcoin from 2009 to 2019 would make it into somewhere around 8 billion dollars. Not bad sitting money, right? Then add to that that while sitting on crypto one can run a business at the same time making money every day. ;) I wish I did that but unfortunately I missed that train.

I hope i was clear enuff???
Aww good boy and , how is it with them cute passwords then? ;) LOL
As liqouid fonds dont work for YOU. Yes but if you invested and got intrest of that money, a even better sitting pool, right? ;) and add crypto is sencetive to market changes.. you might have less then you bought them for ;) :P LOL Crypto currency is not the same as fiat ;) LOL
One sure can do that :D i see steemit as my retire found , ok i work my act but as i told you, by leaving it as is, i would make orca soon & thats some serious sp ;) LOL But i also love more, which is why i do activetys here ;) secodnly, i enjoy photography, and here i get payed for my hobby, so steemit for me is a tripple win :D

Haha, "good boy".. where is the halo smiley when I need it. :D

Just out of curiosity, when you upvote something the first thing you do on any given day, how much is that upvote worth for the content creator when your power is what it is now? And is your vote worth the same for the creator on a comment, video or regular post?

True with crypto, but I think if you buy crypto now after the 2017 correction it will be reasonably sure to be worth 10-40 times more in 4-8 years. But you never know.

NIce with the retirement fund. ;)

And yes, I also love creating. I just wish I would find the right assistant to edit, upload and post what I create on all platforms so I can focus on creating.

Actually I should advertise here in the Philippines for someone..

he he ;)
Ok first of my act upv around 25-37 acts Any given day ;) Yes i deluute vp and there for vote value, i do recover faster the more sp i have.
Hm author will always get the bigger peice of the pie, now here it depends on WHEN i shoose to upv... !!! This is importent, if i know a post generaits a high vale OFTEN, i go in a vote after 14min but i lose 5% to the comen pool, so for me this is a calculation (i do calculate on alll posts i vote, this is how i make my money here ;) )Then you also need to see the way of posting: 100% OR 50/50 im not loveing to upv 100 as i get less in return BUT here the author gets a crap load of Sp ;) LOL
My vote vale will be the same for the author, regardless if its a video/post. But as i said earlier, it depends on how many voters and how & when they voted. Im not a fan of upv coments, i guess i havent really done the math on that ;)
as of now; my vp is 94,79% value is 0.30 , i dont usually have this high % but il guess peeps havent been posting ;) I will keep a 0.3 value down to 80% but that also mean i muuust vote with 100% O.o
To fully understand this, you need to understand the curations ;)

One got to save for them oldY days ;)

Yes i agree & belive the big crypto winners are the once , who got started -08

Get creating then :D woohooo as of now, it cost you time buuut youl get it back, or thats the hope LOL :P

Oh, now thats cool, get to learn the system first then you might be able to help 'someone' out :D

Time to sleep over here, thank you again, now at least I have a liiiittle better idea of how it all works. :)

They become active again..... In other not to lose the voting power

@chrisbarth, I don't quite understand what you mean. :)

I'm answering the question you asked on your post title

Posted using Partiko Android

Ok, I learned a lot more from @swedishdragon that made me realize that my idea was based on a lack of knowledge about how it works, but then I get you @chrisbarth. :)

what would happen is the rewards pool would be drained on a daily basis and there would be no surplus. Not really a great idea

Haha, ok, I'm slowly learning, thank you @paulag . As of now what happens with the surplus of the rewards pool and what would happen if it was drained on a daily basis? I don't doubt what you write, I just have newbie curiosity about it. :)

surplus allows us to reward more people, the smaller the pool, the smaller the share for everyone

Oh, ok, so surplus does actually go to a pool and to rewards, that was actually kind of what I was suggesting with the title, but in a different way and a larger part of it maybe. I'm still far from understanding how it works completely. Started a course on it, but realized it was costing me too much time and I have to focus a bit more on my business and my crypto investments. ;)
