Steemit in a Nutshell

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Steemit is a social networking site (SNS) like Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram. You can follow other users and vice versa. You can edit your display picture, banner photo, and you also have a space for your brief bio.

Content-wise, it is more like blog sites such as Wordpress & Blogspot. Steemit users do not just post a simple or random photo or status, they post a wide array of writeups/articles that are in essence, should be tagged as having quality content.

What sets Steemit unique from the likes of Wordpress, Facebook, and other SNS?

1.) It is the first SNS built on top of a blockchain.

There are good points that Steemit is built on a top of a blockchain.

* First things first, you can actually earn just by producing quality content!

How?

There's a reward system.

This means that if other users find your post as a good read or has quality content, they will likely upvote your post. Upvote is equivalent to "like" in Facebook.

The thing is, for every upvote of other users, you're earning Steem tokens. As what previously stated, Steemit is built on top of a blockchain that uses Steem cryptocurrency. These tokens can be traded to Bitcoin, Ethereum, or straight to fiat currencies. In some cases, these tokens have to be traded to Bitcoin first before it can be traded to fiat.

2.) Fact-checking or plagiarism-checking is easier

The good thing about this community is that it does not tolerate plagiarism or fake information. For instance, if people found out that you're a plagiarizer or an ambassador of fake news and information, it will damage your reputation. After all, building connections and upholding your reputation in Steemit is the greatest foundation if you want to have a good following.

3.) Steemit promotes transparency.

You can check someone's earnings and other information using different tools such as steemnow and steemd.

4.) Although you can add tags, 5 is the limit.

Be wise in putting your tags!

5.) There are legit contests you can enter to earn Steem Tokens.

This contests range from writing technical articles to drawing to animation to photography. You can showcase your hidden talents, that's for sure!

For those who are self-proclaimed untalented, you may want to check this tag #untalented to see what we (yes, including me) have to offer.

6.) After your posts reached 7 days, you can redeem your earnings. However, be aware that also after a week, your posts cannot be edited or deleted. Always, always, always be reminded of this.
