STEEMIT 101 | ADVICE FOR NEWBIES

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

I joined the steemit platform on December 2017, and without the proper know how, dived into the steemit pond of social community. I had watched some videos on YouTube after i had signed up and was waiting for my password. I watched some helpful videos from authors like @joeparys, @charlesjay, @champagnecrypto, @jerrybanfield, @brandonfrye, @brianturner, @mathewtimothy who learnt through @surfermarly and others i can't really remember.

WHAT'S THE FIRST THING TO DO ONCE YOU ARE APPROVED?

Most newbies on steemit were either invited by friends or probably saw a steemit ad. Those invited by friends often times don't receive more help from the friends that helped them sign up once they are approved. They are left to fend for themselves in the big wild steemit jungle. It's no wonder they get frustrated and give up, abandoning their accounts.

I had a test case of following up a friend of mine i had invited to steemit. I had private steemit lessons with him for 3-4 weeks after which i encouraged him to put his lessons into use. I was quite surprised at the pace at which he blossomed on the steemit platform. His ID is @t-flames so you can check him out. He did wonderfully well beyond my expectations and even went on to create his own group where he teaches his own students the lessons i had taught him.

At this point, i felt fulfilled knowing i had planted a seed that sprouted to birth more seeds.

Alright enough talk, the first step you should take is writing your introduction post.

Here is a post by @shayne giving detailed instructions on how to go about writing your awesome introduction post. Click here Steemit new user tips by Shayne

Well if you have successfully done this part, i congratulate you.

KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND THE PLATFORM

Well if you have successfully written your introduction post but still don't understand what some of the tabs on your profile mean, this section is for you. I will start off with an image of my profile numbered 1 to 8 and also a dot.

  1. Is where you can find ur reputation level.. It increases as you become more active on steemit, gaining more high valued followers, earning more, and when you invest in steem by keeping steem in your account or better still powering up.

The reputation can also decrease if you get flagged...

Things that might lead to you getting flagged:
. When you copy and paste articles from the internet...
. When you copy another persons post on steemit and post it like you own it...
. When piss off the wrong person, especially someone who has a high reputation level...

  1. Is where you give a brief summary of who you are and what people should be expecting to see on your blog... You can customize it from the settings menu at number 8 in the pic.

  2. Is where you can find all your posts.

  3. Is where you can find all your comments on other people's posts.

  4. Is where you can see all the replies of other people to your comments or post.

  5. Is where you can check how much you earned on a post, both on Curation or author rewards.

You can also earn when you upvote other peoples posts, that's what we call Curation.

You get a certain percentage of earnings from any post you vote on... The bigger your vote, the bigger your Curation rewards. The author rewards refers to the rewards you earn on your posts... So you can see how much you earned on each post.

  1. Is your wallet, this is where they will pay your earnings into... Once it's time, a dialog box will pop up in here asking you to claim your rewards... Once you click it, they will deposit it into ur wallet.

Your earnings are divided into 2, 50/50

One part goes into your steem back dollars wallet, another part is automatically sent into your steem power wallet.

  1. Is where you can find your settings. It's here you can change passwords and new profil pic and set your about (what you do).

To set your profile pic, you will have to upload your pic at a site first. Then input the link you will get from that site in your settings page on steemit.

*Go to https://postimg.org

*Click choose images and upload

*Then u will see different links

*Copy the direct link

*And paste that link in your profile link url on steemit

*Then lastly, click save.

. The place where I put a dot on the pic is where you should click to write a new post

FEEELING OVERWHELMED?

Yes i know how this must feel, i was once where you are right now. So much information you don't know how to begin to implement. Here's a tip for you, breathe in, breathe in again, and go through the information again, this time more slowly. Carefully process the tips in your mind as though you were already using them, and apply where you see fit later on during your steemit activities. Once you get the hang of it,it's easy actually.

MY PERSONAL ADVICE

Steemit is designed to be a social platform platform, make new friends by commenting on their posts to show support. Not just saying 'nice post' and leaving, comment constructively after you must have read the authors blog. No single drop of water forms an ocean.

Join communities and actively participate in their activities, you could make more friends like this too.

Join contests too, this is a good way increase your earnings as well as making new friends also.

Be actively involved in impacting the world around you through steemit, steemit loves cheerful givers.

Make use of the various platforms on steemit like:

*esteem

*steepshot

Great advice @dee-y I think some people jump into Steemit before knowing there way around and would be best to do some research first.
