Powering up to a baby dolphin!

in #steemit5 years ago

I opened my account in March this year but I did my first post on the 15th of May. Yes, I was sitting on my account for almost two months without using it as I was not sure if anyone would be interested in my content and I was worried that I would be wasting my time. How wrong I was!!

My first payout was whooping 0.33$. I was however overwhelmed with the comments that I got. I was welcomed to the community and people were really nice to me. Some of these people that I met in the beginning of my journey are still here and I'm eternally grateful for their guidance and their support (you know who you are).

Soon enough I understood that Steemit is about people and communities. I started to participate in various projects and joined a few discord communities as well. I have never focused my attention on current payouts. I spent hours on my posts and my payouts were very low (very often below 1$). But I wasn't discouraged. I was enjoying the discussion that was taking place in the comment section. And I do until now.

I was never focusing on the price of Steem. I'm here for the long term and I'm not planning to power down in the near future. After 4 months of posting and engaging on a daily basis I was still a small red fish. But I wanted to support newbies and reward quality posts. How can you do it when your own vote has a dust value?

Becoming a Minnow

I bought some Steem for the first time in August for about 1.30$. I became a minnow but what was more important to me was that I could distribute more rewards to smaller accounts. After two weeks the price dropped again and I invested for the second time. This brought me to the middle level minnow.

I'm usually not a person who would celebrate these milestones publicly. I didn't celebrate my first 500 followers, 6 months on Steemit or powering up to a minnow.

Becoming a Dolphin

I told myself that when the price drops below 0.5$ I will power up again and become a baby dolphin and this is what I did! Last Monday I bought some Steem and powered it all up. I did a wrong calculation and got a little more than I expected which was a nice surprise 😊 I was on vacation last week and celebrated this milestone with a glass (or few) of Prosecco 😊

I didn't want to celebrate this milestone here but after @glenalbrethsen told me that it would be a shame not to do it I have decided to share it with you.

I'm so excited about my new status! I will continue to support quality content, upvote comments, being active in projects and communities and help new Steemians grow their accounts.

If you feel like celebrating this milestone with me, please leave me a comment 😊 I will be happy to answer all of them and I will of course upvote as many of them as I can 😊

Thank you for reading,

Martina

Wow, congratulations Martina! You deserve this status and more! The Steemit community is so lucky to have found you and I know that you will be a "good whale" one day :D ... I'm happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Dave! I hope you have understood that I meant you when I mentioned people that I know from the beginning ;)

I will try not to eat plankton when I become a whale :D

Well done Martina, you did the right thing investing in SP for the long term. I came back after 2 years and I found Steemit ecosystem changed, more mature with a lot of new project in development and a vibrant growing community. Someone just by seeing quality posts like yours will want to join, so by doing quality work here you greatly contribute to the growth of steemit and also your investment. I will follow your example :)

Thank you Dan! I'm always flattered when someone talks about my quality posts :) It's so nice to hear.

Are you going to become an orca or a whale in a short time? ;)

If I'll grow a bigger fish one day I'll do it to vote 100% for people like you.

It will be enough for me when I can visit you in that house with beautiful views that you are going to get ;)

Congratulations on the milestone - @delishtreats. You should share this with everyone.

I did something similar - I sat on my account for about 6 months, opting to develop a community of people, rather than aimlessly posting to no one. I found that commenting, and actually taking an interest in other people and their blogs was much better than just posting content that would take me hours to create, and earn less than 2 cents.

I've not bought STEEM yet, but am quite tempted at the moment. Prices are looking quite good.

Thank you Steve! I completely agree with you. I started to focus on building a community around me too. It only take you a couple of minutes to make a nice comment but it can be a start of a friendship that you will treasure for a long time. This is more important to me than the monetary part :)

I will invest a little more if price will go down again. If you are a first time investor then you should definitely do it. There is no better time for you :)

Woohoo! You big beautiful dolphin you! 😂 I hope lots more people also buy lots of steem while the price is still so low. It’s a fabulous opportunity.
Hope you have been enjoying your vacation and working on a super dupa vacation post. I shall lift a glass in your name my dear friend. Haha Not for the first time. Love you Martina. 😉❤️🌈🦋🌴💛🍀

It's so good to hear from you my dear Sallybeth! Are you back in Costa Rica already?

I hope so too. I understand that many people don't have the funds to do so but I hope that at least those who can do it will consider investing.

I had a great time! It was no special destination, just some nice time together :)

Cheers to the bright future of Steem!

Love you too my dear! ;)

Hah I noticed that immediatelly when u upvoted my post and I became rich haha :D WHat's the official dolphin threshold? 5k?

Congratz! Use ur power wisely (and upvote me :D)!

Hahaha and wait when Steem goes up and I upvote you post :D THEN you will become rich, lol :D

Yes, it's 5k SP - planning to power up?

Oh, I love your honesty :D People would be nice and hope for an upvote but not Matko. Matko says it straight :D

Hah yess and no. I believe btc will hit 2k soo I'm kinda waiting for it to do a "main" power up. But yeah, you never know so I've already bought 1.2k of STEEM just so I'm not totally sad if we skyrocket from here haha. But I think there's still a year of bearmarket & accumulation phase ahead of us. I'm staying ready with FIAT on Coinbase haha :D

Well, I had nothing to lose haha :D you could technically flag me but I gave it a try anyway haha :D

I'm waiting for Steem to fall to 0.1 and then.. :D

I have no fiat on Coinbase. It works so fast for me. I send money one day and can use it the other day already. Since I'm not checking the market everyday it's fine for me.

Hahaha, you know I wouldn't flag you :D I have flagged just one comment once. I don't remember what it was but it was a spammer and bothered me on a few posts. Other than that I don't use flags at all. And I'm lucky that flags are not used on me either :D

That's right, blame it all on me, @delishtreats! I'm a father, dad, and grandpa. I'm used to it!

Still, I'm glad you did this. At the very least, you can look back on it and mark the time when you passed the dolphin threshold. Hopefully, though, others can look at this and say, I'm going to do it, too. Invest some, add a little more value to the blockchain—whatever it takes to increase stake.

Your accomplishment is even more remarkable because you did it in roughly six months of actually being on STEEM. I don't think many of us can say the same thing.

Personally, I don't see this as bragging, drawing attention to yourself for attention's sake, an invasion of your privacy or anything else untoward. I see it as another pinpoint of light for others to see and take heart. It is possible to advance and progress.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Hahaha, you motivated me to make a post about it so it's a positive blame (if something like that exists ;)

I also hope that others will power up a bit. Now the price is so low and I think that almost everyone can afford to buy a bit.

I'm really lucky with the price being so low and the fact that I can invest some funds. Yes, 6 months is a short time but I have already realized that I want to stay here and experience the bright future of Steemit as well so I thought it was a good idea to invest :)

I like how you look at it. It's a new perspective that is kind of opening my eyes. Thank you for it!

And also thank you for stopping by and for your kind words Glen!

Congrats Martina! I totally feel what you said. I also bought Steem a few times but when the prices were higher. Thank you for always supporting Steemitworldmap and the travel community here! :)

Thank you Donica!! It's my pleasure really. I love what Steemitworldmap is doing and the travel community is just amazing. I will definitely continue my support ;)

I'm a bit late to the party but congrats @delishtreats

I have been toying with adding more myself but my wife is dead against it and needs convincing. I'm tempted to ask for steem for Christmas! 😁

I can't think of a better steemian to use their power wisely. Enjoy splashing in those bigger waves.

Gaz

Thank you Gaz! :)

That would be a very creative Christmas present :D You can try.. she might agree to give it to you :D

Oh, that is so nice of you to say!! I'm flattered :)

I'm a mammal now but I still enjoy swimming with red fish and minnows ;)

Congratulations on your dolphinage! I guess you're doing it the right way and I'm happy about how you feel about the community.

Thank you Manol! I think there is no right or wrong way. It's very personal and I understand people who don't invest because they simply can't. BUT on the other hand I think you are right and anyone who CAN invest should do it now :)

True, sadly I am in the can't camp but I am doing what small things I can.

You are doing it very well Manol. I see you're doing some great stuff and you got involved in different projects too. It takes some time... your account is still new but I'm sure that if you continue with this persistence it will go very quickly without investing any money :)

Congratulations! Didn't even know this while talking at you, and I as a minnow even made your day how special 🤣

No serious enjoy your new Dolphin life, will be way more interesting I think looking at/helping all the tiny fishes in the Steem ocean.

Hang loose Skippy 🤙

Hahaha Remy :D I hope that one day when you'll be a big whale I'll be able to make your day special :D

So far I love it! But suddenly I've been approached by few people who I've never heard of and it seems like they're looking for votes :D But I stay out of such games.

I've powered up to support the small fish and minnows and this is what I'll be doing going forward :)

Thank you for stopping by!
