An alternative way for earning Steem Power Delegation

in #steemit6 years ago

This week we started rolling a new platform that can be used by the steem community: steemhost.com. This platform introduces a traditional mechanism for generating income but with an new twist. Each of you reading this can freely join this platform and your content is automatically displayed just as it is on steemit.com or busy.org. However the content that you have create appears in a layout suggesting it is your own personal site. While we will continually focus on the layout of the site, the important function of rewarding you as a host and the visitors.

When people first want to visit a site, all they need to do is type in www.steemhost.com/@dwarrilow2002 ... and substitute their preferred steemian. If the site has not had a host or mentor configuring the site, it will show the person's posts but will not earn any advertising revenue

NED MADE NO MONEY FROM THIS ADVERTISEMENT!!!

LUCY WILL HAVE AN ADDITION 0.0033 ADDED TO HER STEEM POWER DELEGATION (posted once her accumulated level exceeds 1 steem ... it is a steem power delegation thing having to do with vests. I am lucky to remember wearing trousers ... much less wearing a vest)

This is Lucy's actual account balance. As you can see that is not a huge amount... not many people have visited her account (www.steemhost.com/@lucygarrod) yet.

What does it cost to join steemhost.com?

As a member of the steem community, you are already a member. I just requires you to verify who you are (with steemconnect) an create a banner section (similar in process to what you have already done on steemit or busy)

Why not use the same information for my banner?

The long term objective is to provide each "host" to have their own online magazine. Perhaps you are interested in travel or photography. Overtime we hope you will be able to design your site allowing you to compete with the best.

How do I get advertising reward?

Once you register on steemhost, and configure your profile advertisements which match certain criteria you have specified appears on a list. All you need to to is confirm that you are willing to have that advertisement. The advertiser will see your acceptance and decide that you have an acceptable site for it to appear on. Then each view and click is recorded. The advertisement is shared 3 ways. A share is delegated to the staff of steemhost ... to pay for hosting (eg steemsql) and development costs; a share is delegated to the host of the site; a share is delegated to the visitor of the site ... if they have identified themselves using steemconnect. If the visitor is not a steemian, the reward would go to you as the host.

When do I receive the reward?

The view and click revenues are accumulated until it exceeds 1 steem. Then it is delegated to the individuals automatically. This is steem power delegation not a reward of steem or steem dollars.

Why delegation and not steem or steem dollars?

I believe everyone wants to see two things ... the value of steem to increase and the value of your posts to increase. When advertisers buy advertisements, it needs to be in steem. This will increase the demand for steem ... increasing its price. If people received steem (or SBD) a number of people will just cash this out... reducing the demand for steem ... lowering its price. The second thing is that in the past, I have given steem as gifts (eg Christmas, birthdays). There never has been an incentive for the people receiving the gift to actually do anything with it. Delegation rewards people who create better content. Recently someone posted "Hello every one, How are you?" and received While I haven't a problem with post promotion ... it really doesn't improve the content. Since delegation is cumulative, it is in a person's best interest to have a steemhost site which attracts lots of visitors.

See me on Steemhost

Sort:

I registered on steemhost.com but I could not set advertisements as it was showing nothing there.

Hello @akdx
I see what your problem is ... you haven't created criteria which will match you with any advertisements. That is my fault ... not yours. I will be creating a post which will hopefully explain things clearer. I would appreciate your feedback on that when I complete and post it.

Sorry @akdx. Today I was in and out (Saturday). I will complete the documentation tomorrow.

Hello @akdx
I hope you don't mind, I made a few changes to your profile on steemhost.com to make things work a little better and to improve your cosmetics. So far no one has posted advertisements in Iceland (perhaps you might be able to sell some if you live there). Additionally you did not list any subject areas which interest you.

The way the system works is that an advertiser will offer his/her advertisements and they can specify a specific host they want to offer it to (used if you want to only offer it to yourself or your friends), the locations (ie countries that you would have it in) ... it doesn't make sense to have an advertisement for a restaurant in Iceland being offered to people in Bangladesh. The third way that an advertisement would be offered by the subject area the you post to most frequently. Since you did not specify a subject area -

  • the existing adverts could not match your profile

Steemhost was only rolled out last week so there are not very many people registered yet. I did not spend much time working on your banner ... I mainly wanted to illustrate some of the things that you can do with it. It is important to remember that advertising only works if you have people come to your page and that requires good cosmetics and good content. Together we can work on your cosmetics but you will need to supply good content. Picture this as your own online magazine. You first need to design the layout and create good content and then you can to assemble contributors who will add to your site. The final thing is to arrive at a negotiation for the advertising on your site.

While I have allowed accepted (on your behalf) and approved the Welcome to Steemhost advertisement, so you will have some initial if people start visiting your site. You only have been approved by one paying advertisement. You have already been rejected by some of the other hosts with paying advertisements because your content does not match theirs. For instance Koigu.com which sells yarn has no interest in paying advertisements on your site ...

You will notice that you have accumulated .0066 steem in this report. That is because you visited @lucygarrod and I checked to make sure that the cosmetics on your site was sufficient and I had previously accepted you as a host.

Oh Thank you! I think I made some mistake. I tried to log in but it is not working. I think I missed one alphabet of my email id. Instead of gmail.com, I typed gmal.com there. I don't know how to fix it.

Hi - I fixed your email address. In a couple days we will allow the steemconnect authentication. The email address is primarily used for notification purposes ... although when we first create an application, we use it for login purposes - mainly because it allows us to communicate with the users directly.

A question about the sp delegation: Where/who is the delegation coming from, and how long does it last?

I might also try and catch up with you at some point about an advertising idea I've had for quite a while. Problem is, I know absolutely nothing about the advertising industry.. ;)

  • When an advertiser pays it goes to @steemhost01 and powered up.

  • Each time a view or click is made, a record is created which keeps track of the activity

  • Once you earn sufficient steem to trigger the delegation (minimum of 1 steem) @steemhost01 will delegate the amount that you have earned both from your hosting earnings + your own visitor earning.

  • While I had entertained the idea to check to see the last activity by a steemian (eg un-delegate if they hadn't posted in over a year), it is actually to everyone's benefit it it is never brought back into the steem environment. Since delegation is like a sponge for steem ... it takes it off the market - there will be upward pressure on the price of steem.

Message me anytime about the advertising thing - I have set up a discord channel https://discord.gg/EN8d7DG

Cheers. I'll pop you a message eventually (it might take me a few days to a few weeks. I'm pretty random at the moment.

The only concern about the delegation thing is that it can be revoked at any point. So the host loses that SP. Of course, the host will gain in increased rewards while using that SP, so it wouldn't be a total loss if it was revoked. But I guess there's always that question mark.

Unfortunately there isn't a way around that part. One aspect of the advertising is that I do not set the price that people can ask external advertisers. Let me give you an example

If you're measuring cost per click (CPC) Facebook advertising costs on average about $0.27 per click. Source

That is about 0.12 steem per click. If you focus specifically on local businesses and have as collaborators a number of local steemians. You could charge $54 (roughly 24 steem) per 200 clicks. However you do not need to pay 0.12 per click. You could be generous and pay 0.03 per click keeping 0.09 per click. (The current advertisers are paying 0.01 per click.) As the host selling the advertising you would keep $45 of the $54 of the initial cost of advertising.

In other words hosts who do the work and solicit advertising can keep the majority of the advertising revenue despite the delegation.
