Living Off of Steemit During Bear Market
Are you scared? Can you pay your bills? Why don’t you get a real job?
Those are some of the questions I get from both people in my real life, and you guys here. I’m touched by the amount of consern regarding my overall wellbeing during bear market, but sometimes I wonder why people keep asking that. If you are working a normal job, nobody asks you questions like that!
Of course I am scared at times, I don’t think I would be human if I weren’t. There are no guarantees about any of this, not the upvotes, not the price of Steem and not about the crypto mass adoption. We can hope and speculate but nothing is certain. The career in blogging I now have, is anything but easy and stable, but this is what I chose for myself, instead of ending up in a battle I don’t wanna fight in.
There are days when I feel like saying FUCK IT, fuck all of it, and cashing out everything I have in my humble portfolio of cryptocurrencies. I would take out everything (in 13 weeks), get out of the space and vacation until my money runs out, and then worry about having to get a real job. Luckily this feeling only lasts for a little while until I get back to my senses, and back to creating.
During last year, while I was still working on a normal job, I had the opportunity to stack some extra cryptos, which come real handy these days. In current prices, and the lifestyle I live, I am not making enough on posting that I could cover all the costs, so I have to dip into those savings to pay my bills.
I used to live a life where I was always thinking ”when I have the money/time etc, I will do this and that” but I am learning how to live life now! Part of that is in relation to money and using it. Sure I could get back to the kitchen and keep stacking cryptos for when they boom and then I would have a life of luxury, but I was so miserable in a normal job! I really do think if I were to do that, I would have nothing to give creative wise, and I would drive myself into a deep dark hole, which I couldn’t crawl out of if/when the cryptos finally land moon.
Steemit, other cryptos, and fiat are all meant to be used, that is my opinion. Currency is just a tool, if everyone just hodls, nothing good will happen to the economy. Using cryptocurrency as much in my daily life as possible and normalising them, is my way of trying to help mass adoption.
But what do I know about any of this, I’m not an expert in anything having to do with numbers and finance. I’m only doing what I think is best for me.
You’ll be the first ones to know if I deside to go back into the kitchen, but I will avoid like the plague for as long as possible. I have plan A, B, C and D before that, if the crypto well dries out. Wanna know what they are?
A. Get a job as a stripper B. Work as a high class prostitute C. Hook up with a random guy and get pregnant D. Move back home to live with my parents
I might be kidding, or I might not, you’ll never know until it happens.
A and B actually sound more ethical than C. The only question is whether you could stomach those options, assuming of course you weren't kidding to keep us in uneasy suspense.
C sounds like a train wreck in the making despite the fact that it would probably be the most honorable choice in the eyes of society. What society thinks is appropriate is often quite insensitive to what is actually best for the individuals caught up in a particular situation.
You are a fairly proficient amateur photographer. Have you ever considered photography as a job? You could to portraits just fine. It doesn't always have to be you in the portraits.
I agree with you on the ethical view of my possible future option, I think number C is despicable, and unfortunately, I have witnessed such things happen.
I am good at taking my own portrait, because I know what works for me, photographing other people is way harder, and it would involve having to work with people. I have never wanted to be a photographer, it's just a medium I use to show what I want to.
You wouldn't necessarily have to take pictures of people at all. Whether you ever intended to or not, you have become a very good photographer. Should the crypto winter continue, I think it would make a great deal of sense for you to sell your landscape or cityscape photos to stock photo agencies. In fact, there is one decentralized stock photo agency being built on top of Ethereum that promises to take a much smaller cut than the traditional centralized agencies in existence. I don't remember its name right now but it will be released next year. I believe even some of my best work could already be good enough to serve as stock photos.
What ever I do in the future, I am sure my photographic skills will get some use. I have been wondering why there isn't yet a service like that, because that would be awesome. I am not sure if my photos are good enough for stock photos, but we'll see if the time comes and I try it out.

Great post, I feel the same. I have learned hoping for things to change is not conducive to success, I can only continue to work and be patient. At least by hustling everyday I give myself a much better chance of success regardless of time frame.
That is a good thing to remember; as long as you keep working, you at least have a chance at success! IF you don't work, there is zero chance at getting where you want to!
Seldom do I find people who enjoy what they do and can live off of doing it so while it works, enjoy it for sure. The time will come when things will turn for the better and value will be created across the ecosystem. In the meantime, continue engaging to build a strong foundation which it seems like you already have created for yourself here.
It's interesting to inspect my own journey and see how it has been changing. First was the start, creating that foundation, and now it's making sure that I keep building on that to get to the next stage, which I don't yet know what it is!
All of these would give you some material to blog about if you decided on one of these courses of action. Well, maybe not option D. You could also combine a couple of elements, or all four.
All legit choices though and it's great you have a backup plan should your blogging not work out as planned.
Option D would provide good nature photography material, because my birth home is surrounded by forests.
I think I am all set for what ever happens in the future, so many good options to choose from.
I was only being sarcastic of course. Let's hope things stay strong and you can keep crushing it with your blog. 😉
