Vegans, Anarchists, we need to talk!

Vegans and Anarchists.png

This is for all of the morally and ethically driven individuals who have chosen to be either vegans or anarchists, those who have done so because they have come to the understanding that the violation of others rights and freedoms is wrong and you want no part of it.

For Vegans, it is the understanding that the lives, rights and freedoms of animals belong to THEM and NOT us humans! They are not ours to violate or take away and any attempt at doing so or even SUPPORTING practices and organisations that DO violate animals is immoral and needs to end! As such, vegans do not buy or consume products that exist as a result of taking away the lives of animals and violating their freedom and will not support institutions that do this and many will actively engage with others who still support these practices to show them what it is they are actually a part of and to convince them to stop.

For Anarchists, it is the understanding that the violation of other peoples rights, freedoms and property is immoral and ultimately a form slavery, this especially applies to the political arena which ultimately forces individuals into one regime or another via the voting process which then attempts to legitimize the violation of people rights, freedoms and property through taxation which is extortion, legislation which is forcibly restricting peoples free will choices and all of this backed by the threat of violence by the men in blue if you don’t obey them. As such they live by the non- aggression principle which is to leave other people alone, do not violate the rights and freedoms of others, don’t force people into belief systems, ideas or regimes, don't attack others or take away that which belongs to them including their own free will to choose how they wish to live their own lives.

Both of these groups advocate for the freedom of others, both of these groups receive severe push back, opposition, ridicule and all forms of negativity when engaging with others who still prescribe to that which these 2 groups know is wrong and yet they continue to speak out, not because they care about being liked or being popular but because they care about doing whats RIGHT! Furthermore Both of these groups are a half of one great puzzle that when combined together create the complete moral stance of not violating ANYONES lives or rights. So morally driven vegans, why aren’t you anarchists also? And anarchists, why aren’t you also vegan?

Vegans, you understand that the violation of animal rights, freedoms and lives is wrong but let me ask you this. Do you vote? Do you support government? Do you advocate for its continued existence along with taxation, legislation and law enforcement? Because if you do, you are advocating for HUMAN rights, freedoms and lives to be violated by the state, they have their money stolen by force which we call taxation which is ultimately extortion, they are told what they can and cannot do with their own lives via scribbles written down on paper called legislation and ANY disobedience results in them being thrown in a cage or even worse if one resists. That is NOT freedom, that is living under the rule of another person or group as their subjects while they are your master, that is slavery and that is the very nature of government and authority, so if you truly were morally consistent in all aspects of your life you would abandon the belief and support of government and authority just like you have abandoned the support of an industry that violates animal rights. What humanity needs to learn is to Do No Harm to others BUT take no shit from anyone that tries to do you harm. These are called the Non aggression and Self Defence principles. Most people can grasp the first principle of Non Aggression aka Do No Harm to others, but the 2nd principle of self defence is just as important. If people understood and lived by BOTH of these principles and we raised a society this way, you would have a people who not only would do no harm to each other, but would also be mentally, emotionally and physically equipped to deal with the odd few that DO try to harm others.

Anarchists, you understand the non aggression principle and that it is wrong to violate the rights and freedoms of others, that its wrong to force a belief or system onto them as it takes their freedom away, you continue to engage and convince others to abandon the support of that which goes against this and yet when asked to extend the same freedom and non aggression to animals, you laugh, ridicule and scoff at the this very idea and still call yourselves advocates of freedom. For most (if not all) of us, the human body does not require the consumption of animal flesh in order to survive, we can survive just fine on fruits, vegetables and grains, so if you were truly morally consistent in your view on ending slavery and violence to achieve true freedom, you would understand that this also includes the animals too, their rights, lives and freedoms belong to THEM and not us, they are not ours to take away and so this practice needs to be abandoned if you truly believe in freedom.

You both (anarchists and vegans)know what its like to experience ridicule and negativity when talking about that which you know to be moral and important yet BOTH of you do the exact same thing to the other group. This is because you have both being raised and indoctrinated into a society, belief and way of life which sees that which you are against as the norm in most peoples eyes, just the way things are. You have become so use to it that you cannot imagine having to abandon it. The very thought of it feels like an attack on something you've believed and been a part of your whole life and something that makes you who you are and ultimately deep down, the thought of such a change and having to abandon something you’ve done your whole life, that frightens you, how will you live? How will you function? What if it doesnt work?

Many meat eaters continue to label vegans as “extreme”, “angry” and/or “bitter”, they continue to mock them with jokes about bacon or they voice their concerns about animals over populating the earth if we didn’t eat them or where to get protein and other nutrients from or even going so far with “but you eat plants, you kill too” not understanding that humans don’t require animal flesh in order to survive and we can live fine eating fruits, vegetables and grains. If the human body actually required animal flesh in order to live then by all means, do what is needed to survive, however since that is NOT the case (at least for MOST humans) there is no reason for the continued killing and consuming of animals. And yet these same people who throw all of this ridicule and fear based arguments are the same ones to claim they a seek freedom and non aggression.

government.jpg

Believers in government and authority, also known as 'Statists' when confronted with those who tell them that the state is ultimately a tool for violence and slavery against the rights, freedoms and lives of others and should be ended, they respond with “who will build the roads?”, “how will society function?”, “what if a gang comes and takes over?”, not realising that government IS the gang that has taken them over. They even go so far to say that if you don’t like it here you should leave. They (just like vegans) receive all kinds of negative backlash and ridicule thinking that anarchists just want chaos, mayhem and destruction and to do whatever they want without consequence when all they want is just to leave other people alone and not force anything onto them such as the state. None of this ridicule, concerns or comebacks justify forcing beliefs and regimes onto other human beings which is exactly what you do when you vote and partake in anything to do with the state or the support of it. And yet those who DO continue to support such a tool of violence and slavery are the same ones who are are morally outraged and driven to take action when rights, lives and freedoms are taken away, however its only for the animals and not for the humans too.

To these groups I say that BOTH of you are in the right when it comes to that which you stand against and BOTH of you are in the right when it comes to the freedom you support. Yet at the same time you both only have half of the puzzle, the other half is in that other group. Vegans, become anarchists too and support the rights and freedoms of both animals and humans, Anarchists, become vegans too and truly live by the non aggression principle, not just for each other but for the animals too.

When BOTH of these moral standpoints come together, THAT is when you have a truly complete moral human being, Veganarchy for life!

Sort:

The vegans who aren't interested in using the state to stop me from eating animals are my buddies. They may even convince me in time.
The vegans who want legislation to close down dairies or abolish the consumption of eggs, they can go jump.

Now that's the kind of anarchist that gets my follow -

Even when I was a hardcore vegan I never advocated for that. I would only advocate (and this is for ALL food) transparency on labeling. GMO labeling as well!

Food vans? Lemonade stalls?
This is the problem with laws. They affect those outliers you may not have considered.

Making lemonade with store bought products would be as simple as showing them the products used.

Monsanto is using this lax labeling requirements to own our food supply. I think that is a far greater risk than listing if your beef was raised inside or outside, organic or maybe GMO for all we know soon.

Without Monsanto, I wouldn't have any reason to even suggest GMO labeling requirements.

This is where I think the rubber hits the road. To my mind, deregulation opens the floodgates to competition, which thrives on innovation, and supplying customer demand.
Many people believe as you do, that GMO foods should be labelled as such, but the big supermarkets don't have enough competition to have to worry about doing so.
Not to mention the subsidies I'm sure Monsanto is getting from the state.
The moral argument says that you shouldn't interject your labelling preferences on people who aren't yourself.
The practical argument says that Monsanto and the big supermarkets are only able to keep competitors at bay by hiring policemen to stop them, through the machinations of government.
More government is never the right answer.

As with religion, both veganism ans Anarchy have been hijacked and manipulated to harm the public. I think any who are truly aligned with the moral principles of one will eventually come to terms with the other.

I stopped eating meat for selfish reasons... health! Almost 3 years and counting, getting healthier by the day!

3 things to keep in mind when becoming "vegan";

  • Buy organic, fresh, living produce whenever possible (or grow your own)
  • Do not eat processed food
  • Be conscious of your protein and consume lots of legumes etc.

I would say there just as many unhealthy vegans and vegetarians as there are omnivores. Be sure to be conscious of your own health in the process! You will get bad gas for a few weeks but no worries, it will blow over. Other than that, be prepared for weight loss, improved health, increased energy and an overall improvement in mood and attitude.

I do not adhere to strict veganism (or any other ism for that matter), there are 2 acceptions for me;

  • Eggs which are procured from chickens who are given an amazing free range life on my friends farm
  • Local honey produced in a way to encourage preservation of honey producing bees

I won't eat just any honey and I will not eat eggs from any source I have not verified in person. Dairy products are nasty and probably more in violation of animal rights than meat products. That being said, if I were to go to a restaurant or if someone was to ask me, I just say I'm vegan as it is the simplest way to explain to others.

I think there are situations where meat consumption may not be morally wrong (just as self defense can be a Right) but we are hard pressed to find these scenarios with the over-availability of vegetal sustenance within our societies.

I don't believe anything, I know facts. Fact is - try it for 1 month, if your not healthier you're doing something wrong! I usually give any training or nutrition program 90 days to best evaluate results... never looked back to meat.

I'd be open to a 60 day trial. I've heard good things.

You've got nothing to lose and can always choose to eat meat again...

Nicely written. I'd not thought about the synergies between the two groups before.

wooow bunch of information. awesome!!!

Very well written! I myself go back/forth between vegan and non vegan, though I tend to eat more on the vegan side. I totally agree with your views on anarchy, we live in a divide and conquer state of mind where the elite simply choose the winner and back it!

Thank you for compiling a thoughtful article about the mutual correlation between vegans and anarchists. Veganarchy, love it! I too have done some work on this topic and I intend to keep it up as well. Do the same, please! You shall have my upvotes!

I am happy to meet you, my friend, my life concept is reflected in my blog - I am sure that you will be just as pleased to get acquainted with me! I am a vegan and an anarchist with experience. I despise the system and unfortunately I despise most of humanity. I see that Nature or the so-called god copes with fools better than I do. I could not convince almost anyone to completely share my views. But I see how karma works. I am completely satisfied with this. All those who deliberately reject the truth and decide to remain on the dark side have a reason to regret this in the near future. Only stupid liars can not be a vegan and an anarchist! Any sane person chooses this way. To live not on a lie! It does not need to be persuaded - it's logic.
All we have to do is to unite and help each other and, of course, help the animals in an unequal battle with the crazy bloodthirsty monkeys. We will win, my friend - do not doubt. I love you.
