STEEMIT: A ONE-LEGGED ASS KICKING CONTEST

I was thinking this morning of all the things I must do today to keep the ball rolling, the momentum growing, the tide flowing, here on Steemit. I recall my first week or so on Steemit when I thought all I had to do was write. Ha! That's a funny one. Well, I suppose one could do that, and by choice remain a plankton with .01 cent voting power forever. But that does not appeal to me. So this morning I made my mental list of things to do (along with a hard copy paper list I made yesterday). I mean there is always so much to do, and then the thought came: Steemit is like a one-legged ass kicking contest. I went to YouTube and looked for such a thing and by golly it's a first! It wasn't there!

And then I wondered if there was something similar I could use in this post and a memory popped into my head of an act I once saw on the ED Sullivan Show from back in the 60's. For those of you who are NOT Boomers this show may draw a blank. Let me illuminate your mind. The Ed Sullivan Show was a national event. Every Sunday night Ed Sullivan who I think must have stood about 5'4"' tall would come on stage and introduce all kinds of acts to entertain America... everything from yodeling to acrobatics to the first appearance of the Beatles in America ( I think that was in 1963).

Where I grew up we only had one channel on TV so it was take it or leave it. We took it. Our family watched Ed Sullivan every week at 8:00 on Sunday night. The particular act I am talking about is of a lady balancing on a large ball while she spins China plates on tall poles. Man was that exciting!! Even now I know you must be stricken with
awe when you consider such a thing. So here it is, the Plate Spinning Act from Ed Sullivan.

Now, wasn't that incredible? BUT IT'S NOTHING compared to what one must do on Steemit to keep things going.

Here is my list today:

  • Make sure I post something. Ideally something that would attract a ton of upvotes and change the world!
  • Watch @littlescribes super duper live Discord channel presentation at 1:00 PST. Check out my resteemed post for the details. She is knocking 'em dead with her Dtube presentations and now this.
  • Go to SteemDunk.com and check out the people I follow and comment on their posts.
  • Go look at @quarator and see how I can sign up to help promote great posts (like this one).
  • Check out @newbieresteemday and see if I can help there.
  • Make sure to keep in touch with key people I am "talking" to and developing relationships with, and also support some newbies I've come across that need a helping hand and some direction.
  • And finally prepare myself mentally for receiving the 4,000 delegation of Steem someone is going to give me. I don't know who this someone is yet but, you know, one has to be mentally prepared!

And of course I had to make a mental note to myself: Don't go overboard with my wry sense of humor. Sometimes I get a bit carried away.

Well, so that's about it. Not much to do today. Many blessings to all of you and may you have an exemplary day.

I love your attitude my friend... And that pic certainly got my attention...may it do so for many many others!

I feel your struggle! If all I had to do was steemit, things would look so different in my world. I try to honor the delegation I have and use it to keep moving forward, yet I am struggling to fit Steemit the way I want to be Steemin It! into my very hands on homesteading life.

I am juggling a few new ideas... Just need to leap... Soon...
I would live to funding this homestead dream with Steem, but that's not an option until I find the balance of the whole... Adapt...evaluate...adapt...dance!

Hugs my friend. You have much to offer, may it offer you what you seek in exchange!

Those are very kind thoughts. I don't know how you guys do it that have all the responsibilities of homesteading life. Hope you get it figured out. Many blessings.

Even I struggle now that Spring is here. I'm actually looking forward to Winter again, so that I can jump right back here full time. lol.

It's really impossible to grow here at all if you don't put time into your social game. If you don't really like interacting with others, then it's not the place for you. ("You" meaning the general you, not you you!) If I'm in the mood to work on growing my account, the to-do list only starts with writing a post. After that you've gotta go check out and contribute your thoughts to what your friends have done, engage with your own comments and followers, and scope out some users you haven't interacted with before (through resteems on your feed, or just by randomly exploring). Having a community that you're plugged into on Discord really helps as well. I rarely listen to any presentations and I haven't checked out @qurator at all, though.

Indeed your activities and attitude seem to mirror my own. We must wear many hats and put the pen to its most diverse usages. Now go out and kick some butt, or spin some plates, or ... make comments. Blessings.

Yeah, it's kind of interesting how the "diverse usages" thing works on here, actually. I've worked in the digital media industry the last few years, particularly with YouTube creators, and the common wisdom with YouTube is that you have to stay on brand and on one topic, and deliver consistent content to your audience. It's definitely true; when we post content that is new and audiences aren't expecting it, engagement and viewership goes WAY down. Any kind of changes or diversity to your content has to happen very gradually. Here I write on all sorts of different topics and it's actually really helped to expand my audience. People seem to be more flexible to reading content outside of their niche interests.

For a moment there I thought I had blundered with my wide ranging posts. However, I am going to develop a central theme and have minor octaves off of that. Interesting that we can be more diverse here. Glad you pointed it out.

I've been trying to make a check list of sorts in my head as well. Unfortunately, I will likely be in the Always a Minnow category. There just isn't enough time in the day for me. Oh well, I'd rather be here writing and thinking, than scrolling facebook.

Good luck to your success. I like your writing style.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Yes, I've not been back to Facebook but maybe 3 times in the past 3 months. Hope you find time to continue to work with Steemit. Thanks for dropping by. Blessings.

Thanks Dunkers.

With some training, you could kick somebodies ass even if you only had one leg. Remember 'The Karate Kid' and how he won the competition with a broken leg? ;)

Don't let those little things stop you from accomplishing greatness! hahaha

Coincidentally I saw a preview for a new update on The Karate Kid. The bad guy he beat is now a good guy and is teaching at his own Dojo. I think the Karate Kid himself signs up.

This only ass kicking I do around here is my own. And that's a real trick but you know "America's Got Talent".

lol. It's easy to kick your own ass when you are laying flat on your back in the mud! Takes real talent!

I did not see that preview as we have been off the TV grid for over 10 years. I'll take your word for it. Would not surprise me that he decided to go to the light side as the problem was rooted with his instructor while he was still an impressionable kid.

My kids loved that movie and watched it over and over and over. I watched a bit of it a few months ago and was deeply impressed with how corny it was! NO TV!? No wonder your brain functions so well. Blessings.

Well you sure did get it right with those spinning plates. Seems like a job just to keep them all moving. Then there is always the couple I feel I need to add in. If only the steem would add up as quick as the plates :).
On the upside I think it is great how many old shows are on YouTube. I even found the Beverly Hillbillies

Thanks for stopping by. And like granny used to say, "Y'al come on back now." Blessings

Great explanation on Ed Sullivan and I am amazed with the title one legged ass kicking contest hahahha

It is an instant draw!

It is good that you want to help other people and set yourself a goal to increase your SP.

As much as delegations are good it is only good to increase your own SP.

Yes, and I have to say I saw you eating that yummy looking food where they grill the meat at your table. Korean If I recall. And of course there was a lovely lady at your side. Or was that your sister? Good to see you here @maverickinvictus. Thanks.
