How Much Does Google Adsense Pay Per Million Pageviews? Breaking Down CPA vs. CPC vs. CPM

in #steemit6 years ago

Ever wondered how much Google Adsense pays per million pageviews or for a million visitors to your website?

Well it's impossibly to completely accurately answer that question.Google Adsense pays out on a variety of factors. Some niches and keywords are valued more than others so that plays a role. Whether you just get a visitor to your site or whether someone actually clicks an ad plays a role as well. When someone actually clicks a Google Adsense ad you get paid more than you do for someone just seeing the ad. Some accounts wind up getting value priced which means you get paid even less. Basically moral of the story is everyone's situation is different and everyone is going to be paid differently, even for that same amount of page views 1 Million.

Anyhow, the other day, this past Tuesday I made two videos. You can check them out below if you havn't seen them. The first being...

Is Google Adsense a Good Way to Monetize My Blog? The Pro's & Con's of Monetizing Content w/ Adsense

That video discusses the pro's and con's of Adsense and if it's a good choice to use to monetize your blog.

Then later in the day on the episode of Side Hustle Tuesdays, we talked about the Brown Thumb Mama who intially used Adsense to monetize her blog but later switched to using a different program called Media Vine, along with several CPA programs like the Amazon Associates Program as well as other affiliate program CPA programs.

Well then today I was browsing Reddit and saw a post about Google Adsense so decided to check it out. I made a comment about how I find that Google Adsense only equates to real money if you have mega traffic which to me is hundreds of thousands of views or page visits per month at a minim, ideally in the millions.

Someone commented and shared their own personal page views and earnings. It was someone from the UK. They had 935,000 visits to their website and earned 733 GBP Pounds which equates to about $989.

That's great earnings, earning almost a thousand bucks for simply writing a blog is awesome, but I wanted to examine how much he could have potentially earned using a CPA program or an affiliate program as opposed to just Adsense.

With Adsense he's paid per thousand visitors, so it may be something like 0.001 cents per visitor. That money is guranteed based on his traffic, and if people actually click the ads he'll make a bit more.

Alternatively, if he was using a CPA or affiliate program there is no guranteed money, but he will be paid for each action whether that be a sale of an item, signing up for a service, or maybe even just signing up for an e-mail list and giving an e-mail.

Because that is a bit more of a challenge, it pays better. All different affiliate programs pay differently, something like Amazon Associates program pays anywhere from 1% to 4% of the total value of items sold, where as some other programs may pay out a flat fee. I'm a member of one affiliate program which pays $100 per sign-up. All in all it varies but tends to pay better.

So let's run some numbers and see how a potential scenario might play out using Affiliate Marketing instead of Adsense. Let's assume our affiliate offer pays $10, which is fairly low and very reaslitic.

So we take our 1,000,000 page views. Now let's assume 0.001% of people who see our ad take an action, again whether it be buying something, signing up for a service, giving their e-mail address, etc. 0.001% of 1 Million is 1,000. So if we take that 1,000 conversations and multiply it by our $10 we made $10,000. This is in contrast to the $989 this guy made with Adsense.

I'm not saying Affiliate Programs are always better than Adsense. Adsense is great for blogs that aren't super targeted or don't have a lot of advertisers focused on that specific topic, something like a prank channel, celebrity gossip blog, etc.

But for more targeted content and blogs, if you can find an affiliate program that appeals directly to your readers or viewers, it can be way way way more profitable than Adsense.

What's your thoughts? Do you have experience running Adsense as well as Affiliate Programs? Which has worked out better for you? What are your thoughts on this topic? Drop a comment below and tell us all about it

I have run adsense on a number of my sites for over 10 years now.

But it's really not the best route. Providing a optin form on your Site and capturing emails and then selling over and over to that List is the best way to go.

Thanks for sharing @rulesforrebels

That's what am doing too, that's surely the best way to follow up.

Were you part of the Adsense hayday of the early 2000's or did you just miss the boat like me?

Am just about to do a Google Adsense advert today but I haven't fund the card, reading this comes at the right time.
Am grateful, thanks.
