Explaining Steemit to someone who may or may not even know what Bitcoin is can be hard!
My best explanation for Steemit and STEEM has basically been something like.. "Steemit is the future of social media.. Where you can post anything & everything, from pictures to music, and even articles. When people "upvote" you, the posts you make earn a NEW cryptocurrency (like Bitcoin) called STEEM. STEEM handles 10,000 transactions per second.. While Bitcoin handles only about 7!"

However, after explaining that, I usually get the #1 question about Steemit..
"Where does the money come from?"
I like to say something like "It is free to sign up, and it's free to post. You earn the cryptocurrency STEEM from the upvotes you get on your posts or comments, and STEEM being like Bitcoin can be traded for other cryptocurrencies, or even cashed out for any local currency."
Conclusion
It can be hard to explain new technology to people, but just like anyone trying to explain how email worked in the late 90's..
It's not about how it works, but more how people can use it!

hahah thats true.. I usually say its a combination of facebook and medium but the one that pays you small cents which you dont wanna put in purse but happy to get in steemit
My wife used to do these 30 minute surveys about 10 years ago that paid her like .50 cents per survey, and I told her if she would've done the bitcoin surveys even just earning .50 cents per day back then, she would probably have at least a million dollars worth of Bitcoin now.. And I think the same will be said for Steemit and STEEM in a few years.
heck yeah.. thats so true. Please tell her to start it now ;) these steemit cents might become an inheritance our kids would love to gain
