Do You Think Steemit Should Award Its Top "Players?"

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Hello, Hello, Hello.......

Today I would like to discuss about something that I've been thinking for quite some time now. The title of the post gives you a clear idea of what I am thinking, right? So what do you think? Should we receive an award like athletes, singers and actors (among other professions) do for their accomplishments?

Then again, some of you may think, "Come on man...We ain't actors or athletes, so cut the bullshit." OK, you may have a point (which I don't see), but then again You-Tubers ain't no actors or singers either but they receive this...

Or even better this...

Yep, in case you didn't know, You-Tubers receive a silver YouTube Play-button when they reach 100,000 followers and a bigger golden Play-button when they reach over a million subscribers. So cool, huh?

So the question is, do you think Steemians should receive similar awards? Would you support such an idea? If yes, how many followers do you think should be the lowest limit for such an award? 5,000 followers? 7,500 maybe? 10,000??? More???!!!

Talking from personal experience, I know how good it feels to receive an award for your work. I've won a couple of them as a writer.

As part of provocateur.gr, we won 4 Digital Media Awards back in 2016 and even though I didn't attend the ceremony as I was busy traveling at the moment, it felt really good to know that one of them belongs to me.

Furthermore, me and the "Flying Dutchman" Willie Wanksta, founder and co-owner of tcmag.com (among many other successful projects) won several awards with our content in the equivalent Dutch Awards in 2014 and 2015.

Truth be told, we made it really big not just in Europe and the US back then, but also in Japan and South Korea, well before Google's Algorithm System fucks us up in 2016.

One way or another, Willie created and sent me a honorary award for my accomplishments (as a writer in general) and my contributions to tcmag.com! It feels good to receive such stuff, no shite!

The thing is what do you think though? Do you feel like receiving an award from Steemit for reaching a certain number of followers will make you happier? Or it's all about the money to you?

I am waiting for your valuable opinions because...A-ha!!!

Sort:

Seems that if you rewarded people for number of followers, you would soon get people paying to "follower accumulating bots" in order to get the requisite number of followers to win an award.

That's true, but then again there's the same problem on YouTube as well. One way or another, if someone's willing to buy followers just to receive an honorary award...Oh well, it means that he/she wants it bad. Let them have it, it's business after all. Plus, it will not be for free...They will have to apply for the award once they reach the desirable number of followers (just like on YouTube) and I suppose the whole procedure will require some SBD or Steem as the designers will have to be paid to create the awards, no?

Steemit already awards its top players with fat payouts ...

Not when you comment on a post but don't upvote the post LOL

Truth is that Ilias will always vote when he comments (or even when he doesn't comment) but I couldn't help and vote @onceuponatime as it was a funny comment LOL. Hope you didn't get it the wrong way Ilias ;-)

Of course not . We're all right . :)

YouTube has produced way more rich people than Steemit (It's not even close) and still awards them with something symbolic as the YouTube buttons. So, it's all about the money to you then, which make no mistake, is PERFECTLY COOL with me. That's why I made this post...It's like a poll really to see what people think about it ;)

You have a valid argument there ... What would you be your criteria for a "top player" ?
Followers ? Reputation ? Number of posts ? Number of votes ?

Followers which is the most meritocratic (I think). My idea is based on YouTube's system to be honest.

I could see two approaches. One approach is different categories ( followers , rep etc ) and the other and maybe most difficult is one metric that combines all .
Either way, I am with you.
To be honest all I want is ROI on my time and money invested here and to have fun. Which I have both ( more or less ) :)

Congratulation tkappa! Your post has appeared on the hot page after 27min with 14 votes.

Thanks...I guess!

It would be a good idea to be honest. But then again just imagine the abuse.
It is no secret that there are people who are scams and possess 100 or so accounts. This would give them exactly what they needed to get these rewards.

Even if we are more or less about 1mill users there are accounts that have 25K + followers.
Well i guess that under specific circumstances it could work...(activity of the account, comments , active followers...)
Nice idea though

Wow this was a really interesting article.I am glad to read interesting articles like this and to get some insight as the research and develop ment that goes on in the crypto scene

No, I don't think it's a good idea. Minnows are already ignored and left behind and will never have a chance to win any awards.

If you create a reward system it will be a great distraction where the top whales will only focus on themselves even more and leave the little fish out. What should be worked on is how to help the little fish rise.

You would think that the big fish started out as minnows and would certainly know how it feels to be a bottom feeder and help the little fish out. But they have become smug, it seems.

I need a bit more information. I don’t know what the criteria is for YouTube for comparison.

Is it simply for how many followers? Then you apply for it? Including paying a fee (keeping out trash or giving the organizers compensation for their time spent).

What is the actual reward supposed to provide, beyond the physical paper weight and egotistical boner? (serious question)

I mean, do they (Steemit/YouTube equivalent) publish the information somewhere? Do you get a monetary reward when receiving it? Is there an event for it, that gets broadcasted (that will reach a large audience, attract sponsors, advertisers, generate income, that could be distributed, used as payment, etc.)?

There must be a reason for doing it - a business model - behind the seemingly “altruistic” reason. The altruistic reason: rewarding someone for their hard work and excellence in something.

Such a good idea have from your mind, wow! I really appreciate it. Steemit writer should get an award as youtubers get. This will be a reward and a fact to increase interest also.

If this kind of thanks is necessary because it is motivational and gives you the impulse to keep doing things better, of course some do it for money but it is also necessary to reward the passion and effort of those who give their all for this community. make it more powerful every day, I believe in what you say and I agree with you brother

No, the platform is designed to support big players already. Steemit is an Oligarchy and the top players are already plenty successful.

The little guy needs more say...that's what is needed.
