Promoting the Steem blockchain.... It's a tough job
There is a lot going on on the promotion of Steem and Steemit to 'the other world' , and with that I mean users of other social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram. Why is it so hard to get new people on board of this great platform.. I have thought about several options...
Hire a commercial plane
I thought about sending a commercial plane into the sky with a nice big banner.... Unfortunate you can't pay with Steem so for me a NoGo :)
Wearing a badge all day
I was thinking, what would happen if I wear a badge all day at work? Tried it, the only thing that happened was colleques looking funny at me... So that didn't work obvious....Everybody was looking someone named "Steem"...
Talk Steem on Birthdays
I have tried talking about Steem and Steemit on a lot of Birthday's, the risk with that is that people are getting 'tired' of you telling the same story over and over again....
So what does work?
I am not sure yet what does work. I do think people are interested by the fact you can get rewarded by just writing content (that matters). The first focus is money obvious, getting paid writing posts, but that is not the motivation for the long run, there are examples enough of people who got greedy and took their share of steem and left.. I think you should engage people (Like @steevc said earlier) by the interest that they share, music for instance. Convince musicians that Steem(it) is a great way to share music, passion about music etc. That they can get rewarded for doing so much be experienced as a bonus.
So tell me, how do you make non-steemians enthousiastic for steem and steemit?
Is there something we can do together? Let me know and let's make Steem Steaming !!!

I think the comparison of Steem to Facebook and Instagram is part of the problem. To me it feels like something totally different that I am not sure you can compare to anything else. I think community groups would be a good way to start. I'm talking about actual physical community groups in the town where you live. There's a good chance you aren't the only person in your town that is involved in Blockchain. They have a group down in Detroit and if I lived closer I would totally pop into town for one of their meetings.
Interesting approach and perhaps you are very right but from the point of view of people using facebook as their only platform the compare can make their eyes open :) I mean with upvoting (thumb) the only one creating value is Facebook itself, your data and add's gives them a lot.
Just remain enthusiastic about it. Believe in it yourself most of all and participate on other platforms alongside Steemit. Like other newly popular platforms if Steemit is seen in lots of your posts in other platforms, people eventually get used to seeing it around and accept the idea that it serves a purpose that other platforms don't and that it's here to stay.
So the best way then is consistency.
I don't like the idea of converting anyone, as it kind of gives a bad rep for it if people feel pushed. The benefits should speak for themselves.
Share articles on other platforms that show the rise of the popularity of Bitcoin and other supporting arguments to join the Steemit community.
So we just need to keep at it and be consistent. Hopefully the investment side of things will become less popular and those that truly want to develop an immortal platform will stick around, seeing it for its potential.
It's inevitable social media will become decentralized, Steemit is a step in the right direction but it's also good to be aware of other platforms with similar ideas and get on their train.
Because ultimately it's not about my loyalty to Steemit, it's about my dedication to an honest media platform that is neutral, that ticks all the boxes and that shares the profits with its users.

No idea, it is hard to convince people... I'm trying to get Twitch streamers. But it is really tricky, no one wants to do anything different... However, with steempress and share2steem, you don't need to do anything different!
true, but in one way "they" have to experience it..themselves...
Well you could just let them play the games or let them sign up and just share their content with share2steem.

Games are fun but only when you join them in the early time. Now, for instance, drugwars is only for big accounts it you want to have fun playing..
