Steemit Secret: Bots vs Humans – How many of my followers are bots 🤔

Bots sind auf Steemit nicht sehr beliebt, das ist offensichtlich, da sie eine Art Konkurrenz für uns menschliche Steemians darstellen. Bots können in der Regel viel schneller posten, upvoten, folgen und auch automatisiert die eigene Voting Power verkaufen und traden.

Ich denke, wir werden in Zukunft noch viel mehr mit Bots zu tun haben, aber das ist kein rein Steemit-spezifisches Phänomen.

Ich wollte jetzt wirklich wissen, wieviele Bots unter meinen Followern sind, und habe jetzt eine kleine Analyse durchgeführt.

Dazu habe ich zufällig 20 Follower mit dem Tool Pick Random Follower ausgewählt und die 20 Accounts im Folgenden manuell überprüft. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass es gar nicht so einfach ist, einen Bot wirklich 100% zu erkennen, da hinter den extrem aktiven Accounts theoretisch auch Menschen stecken könnten. Daher habe ich die Definition etwas gelockert und auch Spam-Accounts miteinbezogen.

Generell ist mir bei den Bot/Spam-Accounts aufgefallen, dass sie extrem vielen Usern auf Steemit in kurzer Zeit folgen (zum Beispiel 10.000 bis 100.000 following), was für einen Menschen kaum machbar ist. Zum Beispiel bei @sarina: ist seit März 2018 auf Steemit und folgt bereits 45.918 Usern und hat 1.544 Follower aber einen Reputation Score von nur 27.

Bots are not very popular on Steemit, that is kinda obvious as many human users see bots as a form of competition. Bots can usually post/upvote/comment/follow much faster than humans, and can also automatically upvote, sell and trade their own voting power more efficiently.

However, I think we have to deal with bots even more so in the future, but this is not a pure Steemit-specific phenomenon.

I really wanted to know how many bots are among my followers, because I have the feeling that it is a large number, and performed a little analysis.

I randomly selected 20 followers with the Pick Random Follower tool and manually checked the selected accounts. I realized that it is much harder than I thought to indentify a bot with 100% certainty, because theoretically also humans can run extremely active accounts. So I relaxed the definition a bit and also included spam accounts.

In general, I noticed about bot / spam accounts that they follow an extremely large number of users in a short period of time (for example: following 10,000 to 100,000 users), which is hardly feasible for a human being. For example @sarina: joined Steemit in March 2018 and follows 45,918 users and has 1,544 followers but a reputation score of only 27.

Conclusion

Ich habe in meinem kleinen Sample 30% Bot/Spam-Accounts entdeckt und 10% waren inaktiv (länger als 1 Monat keine Interaktion). Also in Summe sind ca. 40% der Follower Bots, Spam oder inaktiv, was vielleicht stimmen könnte, aber auch gar nicht so schlecht ist, d.h. mehr als die Hälfte sind vielleicht echte Menschen und aktiv :) Cool, oder?

I discovered 30% bot / spam accounts in my small sample and 10% were inactive (no interaction for more than 1 month). So in total, about 40% of my followers are bots, spam or inactive, which might be true, and is actually not so bad in my opinion: More than half of my followers are maybe humans and still active :) Cool, right?
