I learn more about the planets - Part 1 - Reading and listening lesson for little ones

in #steemiteducation6 years ago

Do you like watching the stars and the moon at night?  Are you interested in the Milky way.  Then you will enjoy learning about the planets that orbits the Sun.

We will learn a bit more about each of them (except Earth for now, which we will do in more detail, since it is the planet that we live on) and today we are learning about

                                                                                     MERCURY

This is the planet closest to the sun, so it is also very hot.  We can never live there, we will be turned into a crisp...the temperature can go up to 400 degrees Celsius - that is even hotter than a stove when you bake a cake.  Because there is no atmosphere around Mercury to hold the heat, at night time it becomes very cold and the temperature can drop to -180 degrees Celsius.  No form of life will be able to survive here.

This planet has a lot of craters and looks almost like our moon with no plant life or fertile ground, we say it is barren.

Because of the fact that Mercury has no atmosphere like here on Earth, it also has no winds or weather.  How strange is that?

On the surface of this planet you will not find water or air, but there is a possibility that there will be water and air trapped under the surface, but taking all these facts in consideration, we can take Mercury from the list of possible planets to live on.

  • Watch the video, listen carefully and answer the questions

  1. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, but it is also the ___ planet.
  2. How many kilometers is it along the middle of Mercury?
  3. Which other planet is also very hot?
  4. How hot and cold does it get on Mercury?
  5. The core (the middle) of Mercury is ____.
  6. Can Mercury be seen from Earth?
  7. What is the difference between an orbit and a rotation?  How long does it take Mercury to orbit around the Sun?
  8. Why are there so many craters on Mercury?
