Everyday when you open your curtains or go outside, you experience the weather.  Some days it will be sunny, others rainy or windy.

Lets have a look at some record recordings for weather situations.

We will learn some general facts today and then for a few days we will look at specific aspects of the weather, like the temperature, wind and rain.

Antarctica is a very cold place and the temperature is mostly below 0, but the highest temperature ever recorded was 14 degrees Celsius. We measure temperature either in degrees Celsius or in Fahrenheit.

Using the same anchor points, he determined the freezing temperature for water to be 0 degree and the boiling temperature 100 degrees. The Celsius scale is known as a Universal System Unit. It is used throughout science and in most countries. At a temperature of Absolute Zero there is no motion and no heat.

The most rainfall that was ever recorded in a year was in India and it was 25 meters.  That is a lot...

The most snow that fell in a year that was ever recorded was on Mount Rainier in Washington and it was 31 meters.

Hail can cause a lot of damage to plants and cars and even hurt animals and humans.  The largest hail stone ever recorded was in Bangladesh and weighed 1 kg.

There are different types of clouds and each one is formed in a specific way.  The main types are cirrus, cumulus and stratus.

The USA has more tornadoes than any other country in the world, averaging around 1200 a year. This is due largely to its unique geography which forms an area in central USA called “Tornado Alley” which is frequently hit by tornadoes
  • You are going to record the weather for a few days - every day write or draw what the weather is like and what is the temperature.  You can even record a video and act as though you are a weather reporter.  Have some fun with this.

  • Watch the video and when you are done you will re tell the story or write it down in the correct order it happened.
