We learn more on countries across the world - Belgium - Information for small kids

We are visiting a country today that is very cold in winter time, has beautiful forests, lots of wild live, very friendly people and even the Niagra Falls.  Where are we?  That is right, Canada.

Canada is a North American country stretching from the U.S. in the south to the Arctic Circle in the north. Major cities include massive Toronto, west coast film centre Vancouver, French-speaking Montréal and Québec City, and capital city Ottawa. Canada's vast swaths of wilderness include lake-filled Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains. It's also home to Niagara Falls, a famous group of massive waterfalls.

  1. How big is Canada?
  2. What is the name of the longest street in the world and how long is it?
  3. What else does Canada have that is the longest?
  4. How many insects are found here?
  5. Name a few famous Canadians.
  6. When did Canada get its own flag?

The two main languages spoken here are French and English.  If you look at the area that this country covers, it is the second largest country in the world and is made up of 10 provinces.  Russia is the largest.

A province is almost always an administrative division within a country or state. The term derives from the ancient Roman Provincia, which was the major territorial and administrative unit of the Roman Empire's territorial possessions outside Italy. The term province has since been adopted by many countries

Canada has the longest coastline and it also shares the longest border with the United States.  Some people see Canada and America as one country, which is not true.   There are a few difference between these two countries.

This country has a lot of natural resources like trees and animals, but also minerals like zinc, gold and copper.

It gets very very cold here and the temperature can drop to minus 40 degrees.  Because it gets so cold and there is a lot of ice and snow, they have the ideal place to host the Winter Olympics and they have hosted it twice already and even a Summer Olympic.

The favourite sport of Canada is ice hockey.

Calgary hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics, Vancouver the 2010 Winter Olympics and Montreal the 1976 Summer Olympics.

If you see a maple leave, it must always make you think of Canada and it even features on their flag.

We have learned that Canada is a different country than America and there are even a few things that the Americans do not always understand about the Canadians.  This is fine, we are all different and have our own traditions and ways in our country.  This is what makes the world so interesting.
