Creating a time line - Reading piece and instructions for Gr 4-5 - Life Skills - Getting to know myself

in #steemiteducation5 years ago

First read the following piece and then complete the exercise:

In you mom's photo album or on her computer you will find photos of a small boy or girl with little curls on their head.  Your soft baby hair was always brushed with a special brush.  You sure were cute when you were small.

There will be photos of you playing with your toys that was made especially for little people.  You sitting in your stroller outside, watching the dog play with his ball.

Every night your mom or dad would bath you before they put you in your bed and read you a story.  They would sit with you until your eyes closed and you were fast asleep.

You started walking at 13 months.  You were now a beautiful toddler with dimples on your round cheeks.  You had sturdy legs and you could run around - a little wobbly in the beginning but it got better very quickly.

Your two fat little hands could not leave anything untouched and the best of this time was that you could cry louder and longer than any alarm in your area.

All the things on the coffee table were like your weapons.  You would take it off the table and throw it where ever you wanted - at the cat or on the floor or out of the door.  You loved watching your mom trying to catch the stuff you were throwing around.

Your mom was not always your soft, loving 'Mommy', sometimes she seemed like a stranger that hit you on the hand if you did something you were not suppose to do.

Luckily you could still soften her heart when you were five with you tears and trembling lips when you had to go to the creche and you did not always like it there, but you understood why you had to go.

When you went to Primary School a lot of things changed and a lot of new experiences awaited you.

You had to start fighting your way open in this world, but you also started making wonderful memories.  Some were not so great, but it was part of your life.

Complete the following:

We each have a story to tell about our live.  Even you have one, even though you are young.  The story you just read is NOT your story, so today you are going to tell your own story.

  • First of all you are going to create a time line with events you would like to remember.  When were you born, when did you say your first word, started walking, went to school, the trips you went on with your parents, got a pet etc.  Ask your parents to help compile this time line and look through photos to jog your memory.  Also listen to the stories they tell you about yourself.  - You can just draw and write on a time line or your can add pictures or photos to it.  Use your imagination and make it fun.

  • When you are done you are going to write a few sentences or paragraphs in which you describe yourself when you were smaller or any event that took place or even something that happened recently.
  • Now make a list of at least five things that make you happy and five things that make you sad and say why each of it gives you that specific emotion.
